I've just been spitballing a few ideas and feel like sharing them
Voodoo Vince and Bubsy are the surprises of the year for me ...
Phantom Dust and Voodoo Vince surprised me. They tried to bring back Panzer Dragoon with Crimson Dragon, and Killer Instinct too. All weird choices in my book.
You're right about God of War and the close-in camera. That worries me too. The fighting was always what I loved best about God of War.
I might agree with that "EA is making Star Wars boring" comment. I want to see that story mode they teased first.
Retro isn't working on Metroid Prime 4
I've been saying that about the God of War camera since I saw it. Cutting off left hand "peripheral vision" and no rearward awareness seem like death to a good 3rd person melee system.
As far as Kirby and Yoshi: every new game in these series is new to somebody, so why the need to shake things up? Should companies just make games for the existing audience of jaded veterans? That's a narrow point of view. And yeah, going 3D would be the most obvious and thus not very interesting. Besides there is only so much you can do with a property before you start betraying its essence in the name of change (Hello Resident Evil). Better to come up with a new property with new ideas.
I know Retro isn't working on MP4. That's my point. Whatever they're actually working on I think will be huge. Disagree on that it's someone's first point too. Pokemon Sun and Moon finally shook up its formula despite that being a defense of them not changing and that game kept what worked and sold like nuts.
Also a 3D Kirby game being an obvious shake up in no way makes it uninteresting. All the possibilities his different powers have in a 3D space could make for one hell of a game. Yoshi has plenty of potential in a 3D game as well with its egg throwing mechanic. Both could be pretty unique 3D action platformers.
I'm keen as fuck for whatever Retro is working on, and even keener for both new metroid games.
About the Wii-U... I've been saying that for years and everyone looks at me like some kind of moron. It's got maybe 10 good games on it. The games are awesome, sure, but there still weren't enough good games on it to justify buying one.
I'm still liking new kirby games. I really liked rainbow paintbrush or whatever the fuck it was called. Kirby could be cool in 3D, but I could see certain things being a bit fiddly if not done right. For instance, his flight/float mechanics and sucking in enemies and shooting them could be really annoying. Though this is Nintendo we're talking about so we probably don't have to worry.
Retro studios should honestly just be given the keys to all of Nintendo's properties. I'd love to see what they did with a Mario, Kirby, Star Fox, or shit, even Fire Emblem title. Can you imagine if they made a 3D pokemon game for the switch?
Still haven't played the new Mass Effect, and I don't think I'm going to. So glad you talked me into Zelda instead.
I really liked what I saw of the new Mario and am keen as fuck to get a Switch now.
I didn't realize the three consoles have their mascots in games. That's really cool.
