Hey guys and gals!
I'll be heading to QuakeCon tomorrow for its opening day and hopefully I'll have some cool stuff to report. I normally spend two days there, but since I have a bum foot right now, I am going to most likely only be there tomorrow. There seems to be fewer notable panels and presentations than in the past couple of years, but I always feel like they aren't quite sure what they want QuakeCon to be outside of the BYOC room. That's OK, since that is really the main point of the whole thing, and the rest of the stuff that I'm going for is just added on chaff for noobs like me.

I'll try to get some good pictures of the impressive gaming rigs in the BYOC room and whatever happens to be going on in the exhibit hall. I've got some time set up to see a couple of games that show a lot of promise -- for shooter fans, of course. Hope to see a good bit of the new Doom and even though nobody is even considering this, I have to wish for a surprise reveal of Dishonored 2.
So, check in with my twitter feed (@travishawks) and the site to see what I can post for you. Oh, and if you aren't that into QuakeCon, you should definitely read Dungeons & Dreamers; it gave me even more appreciation for the whole thing.
Is John Romero giving his usual opening day speach? I want to hear that. Also looking forward to your pictures.
You are probably thinking of John Carmack's keynote, which will not be happening this year, sadly. If you hadn't heard, since he left for Oculus, Zenimax is suing him. When he first left, people wanted him to still give the keynote and he said he would if he could, even if he had to give it standing in the lobby. I haven't noticed anything official, but I would assume he won't be showing up. It's too bad that things have gone this way.
They will have a big opening day hoo-rah, and I'll let you know what's up there. Should still be interesting.
Yea, I gooffed and meant John Carmack. I'd heard he'd left ID, so I was thinking this would be the first QuakeCon without him, but I wasn't sure. I didn't hear Zenimax was sueing him though. I wonder who will give the keynote then. I'm sure it'll be interesting anyway. I'm going to try and find some video of it.
I want to hear about Doom, Travis!!!
Will do!
Yea, what about this Doom beta I got in my copy of Wolfenstein: New Order? I assumed it was a PC only MMO, so I didn't bother finding out about it.
MMO?
Ok, I'm a wacko. It's the beta for the Doom FPS coming to like all systems known to humanity. I should've got in on that.
Snee said excatly my thoughts, they released a trailer at E3 saying more would be announced at Quakecon this year regarding the next game. I also am hopeing for Dishonored 2 to be annouced. I recently bought the game again since the GOTY edition was 14.99 at Gamestop new last week.
Dishonored was on sale on Xbox last weekend. I almost went for it.
:(
My only issue with Dishonored is that it may be too stealth oriented for me, but I hear you can play it anyway you want.
Yes you can. You'll get a darker world/ending if you are a noisy jerk, but that is just fine.
there is only thing I want to hear about at this year's QuakeCon...
Also what happened to the Bethesda sale that's suppose to happen. Major Nelson said they were to have a sale during quakecon, and there was even a link on the xbox website, but there was nothing to the link nor any word of such.
They are probably waiting until the 6 p.m. (CDT) presentation where they'll announce it (and probably other sales). Have to give us something to hoot and holler about.
On Xbox 360 last weekend there was selling of Bethesda things like Skyrim, Dishonored, and Fallout New Vegas. I almost went for Dishonored. I probably should've grabbed it. Doom Doom Doom Doom. . . Doomy Doom Doom Doomy Doom. DoomDoom. DadadadaDOOM!
Ooh, I forgot about the usual sale. I'm glad you said something - I was just thinking about buying the Rage DLC.
