Though only a minor mention in Nintendo's third quarter investor briefing, it seems yet another 2D side-scrolling Mario game is in the works for the 3DS. According to Nintendo, the two Mario games released in 2011 for the 3DS - Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 - are their centerpiece evergreen titles. That information combined with the overwhelming success of both New Super Mario Bros. and New Super Mario Bros. Wii make a new 2D side-scrolling Mario game an easy call.
The relevant tidbit from Nintendo's briefing is as follows:
"Although there is no logo here, we are planning to release a totally new side-scrolling action Super Mario in 2D as a key title for the Nintendo 3DS in the next fiscal year."
This was a no-brainer, but I am a bit surprised to see it coming to 3DS. I figured the Wii U version would be the first to come.
I think they will have some sort of Wii U Sports title for launch, and to complement they will also have Pikmin. Pikmin would be a great title to show off the capabilities of the controller.
Or Zelda. The invintory management thing they had going at E-3 looked pretty cool.
Too early for a Zelda game. We haven't gotten one for the 3DS yet. Ocarina of Time doesn't count.
I have to agree with Nick on this. With Nintendo's new online plan, one would think New SMB Mii would've been perfect... though knowing how bitchy third parties get (whaah our games can't compete with Nintendo's because they don't give us a chance) I just can't wait for the WiiU launch.
If the 3DS launch proved anything, Nintendo is not making that mistake twice. Sorry third parties, but you lost.
Prove me wrong though, I might just buy your games if they aren't stupid lazy ports.
