Almost There...

Meaning, I'm almost done with all my Xbox 360 games. I think there's less than 10 left both digital and physical. Here's what I got to this week.

Physical

Splatterhouse - This was a 2010 reboot of the series begun on Sega Genesis with a trilogy of games. I've always kept this 360 game around mostly because it comes with all three Genesis games unlockable on the disc. I got as far as I could in the main game before getting frustrated with it. It's much harder than it should be. I like the fighting a lot but it's very unforgiving even on the lowest difficulty. Then I played some of the first two Genesis games (I haven't unlocked Splatterhouse 3 yet). I find them also unforgiving, but I like the graphics quite a lot. They are colorful and have chunky, fleshy looks I like. Grim, yes, but appealing. I can't get very far in either of those either, but it makes me want to get the original Genesis carts.

Lord of the Rings: War in the North - Surprise, surprise, this just got a remastered version in 2026, 15 years after it was released.

I got the original back in 2011 on the strength of developer Snowblind who did Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance. MK and I played this co-op and solo back then and beat it on Legendary difficulty, according to the achievements I've unlocked. It's a good hack 'n slash game that looks pretty great. This week, I started a new character, a mage, to get some miscellaneous achievements I didn't have. I was going for a multiple-kills-at-once one and acquired magic abilities to create a shield around me and then another one to explode it for area damage. I couldn't get quite enough kills in one blast though. I'd need to play longer and level farther I guess. I'm excited to see what they improved in the remaster. It's a neat way to get into the LotRs. You chose a member of a three person team to try and help the main characters of the story. You're sort of working in the background of the main events and interacting with story characters from time to time.

Midway Arcade Origins - I have this both physical and digital and so had to use my digital version because I found that takes precedence on a single account. I went after a few achievements in the games I thought I might be successful in: Gauntlet 1 and 2 and Smash TV. I failed at all. Gauntlet is a quarter muncher and doesn't let you live long enough to get to level 8 or so for the achievements (I'm still thinking strategy though). And Smash TV is just brutal. So hard to avoid the hoards that come at you. Just one touch kills you unless you have a shield which doesn't last long. I'm not sure what strategy works there. It seems kind of impossible. All fun to revisit though.

I'll make a second post again for the digital only titles I played.

The only thing I like about the Splatterhosue remake is that Jim Cummings was the voice of the Terror Mask. All I hear is his Negaduck voice just cursing a lot more!

I had a feeling there was something special about that voice, but I had forgotten who did it 'til you mentioned it.
