My experience with music makes me a little depressed about gaming right now. As soon as music went digital, I started losing my interest in collecting, and now I hardly own any music in any format. I barely even listen to much anymore because I dislike the way streaming works a lot (no control, commercials). I just see this new gaming world with no physical component just about ending it for me. I'll retro it up for a while yet, but I doubt I'll ever get a new console and PC is just too expensive a hobby for me right now. I feel like I won't be interested as much in new releases if there's not physical object to own. It's just in my blood, and I can't help not valuing digital content as much no matter what it is.
That Forklift game has potential but it's seems not so great.
I've enjoyed all your pics on Fbk. Yak meat? Interesting. What's it taste like?
I've beaten the Mist Dragon before when I played it long ago. I had forgotten the Mist form thing and since I wasn't high enough level, I didn't survive the mistake. I'll play the Pixel Remaster for sure. PSP is not an option for me anymore, I'm afraid.
Yeah I wrote these PS4 articles before Sony made their announcement. The PS4 may be the last Sony console I own. I'd like to get a PS5, but it's still too expensive and there's only two exclusive games I want to play on it: Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart and Astro Bot. So yeah, not a fun time to be a gamer right now.
Wow you sure do travel a lot! I don't think I'll ever be able to afford to go outside the US in my lifetime.
Hit me up if you're in Phoenix.
Wow, that sounds like an awesome trip! I've always wanted to go to Asia, especially Japan, but I'd love to see South Korea, Thailand, China, and more. It's especially great to go on trips with someone who can take you around and show you all that's on offer since they know the area, those are some of my favorite trips.
Sorry to hear the tool ate your blog, I'm implementing a few safeguards and features right now that will be released later today. I'm not sure how it happened, but I know that the changes I'm making should cover all use cases. Anyway, thanks for keeping at it and writing about your trip, I really enjoyed hearing about it.
Oh, I also went to Arizona for the first time a few years ago and I was blown away by the beauty. As someone who's always lived on the east coast of the US, it was really amazing to get to see the desert and the mountains there. I am looking forward to going back again sometime.
This is true - we knew this day was coming eventually. It's still kind of shocking to have it be here today though. And I couldn't agree more when it comes to Valve and Steam. They've gotten far by being good enough, but it's not going to last forever. Eventually, because of their market position, pressure for change will come.
They are about to be an even bigger player in the future with this all digital move and that's going to invite change. I think that unless we have major government bodies stepping in to protect consumers, we're going to get the short end of the stick in the near future. Couldn't tell you what that looks like exactly but something to the effect of companies getting maximum value, while we get minimum.
I agree with most of this. However, we have been warned for 20 years that this would happen. We did get a temporary reprieve at E3 2013. But Blu-Rays are also over 20 years old now, and there has been little research into next-level disc-based storage media, which is honestly something we could use as memory prices soar. There were rumblings of holographic discs being developed at firms like Sony and Panasonic that could hold hundreds of gigabytes to terabytes, but that has gone nowhere.
Also, gamers who are upset about this really need to be more honest and critical with regards to Valve and Gabe Newell. You did touch on this when you said that Steam users relied a great deal on Valve's goodwill. But keep in mind that in the end, Gaben is just another techbro billionaire, and that class of people has long ago abandoned any pretense of the "don't be evil" mantra they all claimed to have when they were starting out. Almost all of the techbros, have, in fact, been evil for years. Valve has already shown its claws with things like Steam Machine pricing and the recent moves where they've bowed to pressure from payors. Sure, most of those games are porno junk, but next time it could be a M-rated classic that they don't like. And for all that people like to talk about how PC is not a monopoly and about DRM-free alternatives, they overwhelmingly choose the PC storefront that is a de facto monopoly and is heavily locked down with DRM. GOG barely turns a profit most years, at best, and a lot of that is because most of their library is, well, old games. But somehow Valve gets a pass, even though they are largely responsible for so many things gamers are complaining about. I have a Steam Deck. It does not have a media slot, while my Switch 2 does. The Steam Machine does not come with a BD-ROM drive.

I've got a fix for the migration dialog issue coming tonight. In the meantime, if you refresh the page, it'll stop doing that. Glad the video was helpful and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out!
EDIT: Fixed the migration dialog issue and a bunch of other random stuff, specifically a bunch of mobile bugs.

Yeah it's no fun being a gamer right now. I wasn't going to get the PS6 because of the high price (I don't even have a PS5), but here's another reason not to. Makes me wonder if I'll eventually have to find a new hobby. Sad thing to think about since this summer will be my 30th anniversary writing game reviews semi professionally.
Well I've set up my profile and wrote a new blog. Took a while for me to figure out how to get it to cut and paste from Word, but it worked somehow. The video was very helpful. Every time I got to a new page it asks me if I want to migrate, though.
There is no ownership on PS6

PS4 was probably the most disappointing console to me, hated it as a machine so much that I shifted to Xbox, PC, and Switch. So I don't have tons of fond memories with it since I was playing everything else. Library got a second wind from me though when I traded it for a PS5, a console with the opposite problem: Not a lot of exclusives, but a fantastic machine (at least, in my opinion).
My favorite PS4 games are Bloodborne, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, Resident Evil 7, Crash Bandicoot 4, Styx: Shards of Darkness, Astro Bot: Rescue Mission, Ratchet and Clank, Spider-Man, and The Evil Within 2. There's other PS4 games I loved (Yakuza: Like a Dragon and Dead Cells come to mind), but I played them on other consoles/PC, so that's where I'm attached to them. Should give Tearaway a shot though. Probably will have plenty of time in the future with the way the PS6 is shaping up!
If anyone is having issues getting their account migrated, feel free to drop me a line at nick AT pixlbit DOT com. I'll be happy to help you out. You can also join our Discord here - I've been lurking, so I will see if you post something there and need help.
Thanks Quim! Here's the forum thread, feel free to post anything you've got and I'll do my best to address it: https://pixlb.it/forums/b3873691-74af-11f1-be94-f6aa60e46a64/threads/2e1de378-2633-430b-a877-8463ad195a68/pixlbit-30-feedback-and-bugs
I like it. I only have one quirk found, and a couple of suggestions.
Edit: Actually 2 quirks. Just remembered the other one.

I've just set up most of the remaining infrastructure. Tomorrow, I will be taking another DB back up, which will be the last I do and used to populate the new DB. I don't have a good mechanism to put everything into read-only mode on this old version of the site, so if you leave a comment or write a blog after tomorrow, it might get lost, so keep that in mind.
As soon as I'm done setting things up, I will cut everything over. Bear with me over the next week as I get things finished up.
I don't think Tinykin got a physical release. But it is a very good game that I highly recommend.
Ys X and Origins are good, too. Can't go wrong with any of 'em.
Any time I've bought from Limited Run it takes about a year for them to ship what I bought. Not a fan of that. And the high price, too.
I never liked the DS version of FF4 because it was way too hard. But I don't think the Mist Dragon is hard once you know that you don't attack when it's in Mist form. The Pixel Remaster is a better way to play FF4, but the last boss in that is way harder than I remember. Really the best way to play FF4 is the PSP version if you can get a hold of that.
TinyKin! I wonder if a physical was ever made for it?
I just wishlisted Ys 8 and 9. I want to try those.
Well, it's the only way to get physical versions of indies that were only digital at release. Always pricey though, so I probably won't get any of them.
I'm looking to get a Xbox One again soon. I'm kind of worried it'll go up, but used consoles might stay put. I hope.
