I was going to dig into this week's plays when I forgot about RetroCon. There are some videos up of it now but none of the cosplayers yet. There were some good ones I saw and I'm sure someone did a video that'll be posted eventually. Also, I thought I'd mention the first game I played this week, Demon's Souls and post a few vids that I like made by From Software that give me goosebumps every time I watch them.

Retro Con in Oaks, PA is a smallish con about everything retro, featuring lots of toy dealers, video games, celebs of yesteryear, and celebrity vehicles. Also the 501'st Legion, which seemed less fun and more creepy to me this year. Here's a short walkthrough vid I found that highlights most of it including the Knight Rider truck.

I enjoyed it, but didn't buy anything. MK got his celebrity signatures from Bill Mumy and Angel Cartwright from the Lost in Space TV show.

And as to Demon's Souls, which I replayed this week. I got about as far as I ever do, which isn't far. Odd because I played more cautiously than I usually do and expected better results. But, there's always that opponent above your ability who chases you once engaged until you are beaten. Go retrieve your souls boy! Naw. I don't do the rinse-and-repeat gameplay. I love the intro movie to the game, but it's one of the first trailers that really gets to me and I think it was this one below. It just gave me chills of excitement when I first saw it in 2009.

And while I'm on the topic of FromSoftware trailers. This one from Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor around the same time. This used the Kinect sensor and didn't really work in practice (at least not when I tried it), but the trailer is really well done.

Next blog will go over all the other stuff I played this week. I'm cruising through my PS3 games so far.

I played Demon's Souls back in the day without really understanding what it was like. So yeah, I got really frustrated with it and dropped it very angrily. Now with years and years of hindsight, I think I would do a better job engaging it on its own terms...but if I'm gonna play one of those games, it's gonna be Bloodborne.

Bloodborne for sure. I'm going to play that again when I get to PS4. Another one I love the design of but gives me trouble.

I miss the days when I could afford to go to E3 and PAX.

The actual game shows are neat as you know. I've been following GamesCon recently but it's unlikely I'll ever make a trip to Germany to go to it.
