I can't seem to find my draft of this blog right now, so I'm rewriting it hastily and with much less content due to time limitations. In any case, this is 2012, the stuff I played during Console Generation 7 and mostly not later, because a lot on the Metacritic list I played years later or literally in 2026. Let's go.
#1 - Persona 4 Golden (Vita) - I had a Vita in 2014 for the Muramasa: The Demon Blade remaster, but I played this too. I had played it on PS2 before this as well. I've never finished it but I think about the psychology of personas as presented in this game quite often.
#2 - Borderlands 2 (X360) - This became MK's and my Halo for Gen 7 and beyond. Day-one purchases all the way up until just before B4, which I didn't get yet but MK did. We played all of B2, all the DLC, and all the achievements.
#13 - XCOM: Enemy Unknown (X360) - This plays much better than the PS1 XCOM game I used to have. I found the first one difficult to manage but Enemy Unknown is very easy. It's not easy in tactical gameplay though and the UFOs get me every time.
#18 - Far Cry 3 (X360) - Far Cry 2 didn't appeal to me. FC3 more so, but I never finished it. My one lasting memory is going swimming in a river and getting chomped by a bloody great crock. It surprised the heck out of me and made me laugh - only in video games.
#22 - Diablo III (X360) - I waited a good long while until 2014's Ultimate Evil Edition to play this, and probably on Xbox One at that time. MK and I both played the heck out of it and continue to play it from time to time.
#25 - Halo 4 (X360) - The first without Bungie. It wasn't bad at all but didn't feel quite the same. The story seemed wrong and the gameplay felt more like modern shooters like COD than Halo to me. But, it was gorgeous and fun.
#62 - Sin Mora (XBLA) - This side scrolling shmup won me over in graphics. These games are always difficult. Why? I just want to see all the environments in the game. Is that so wrong?
#113 - Pokémon Conquest (DS) - I seem to like the Pokémon spinoff games more than the main series. This is a mash-up with Nobunaga's Ambition. I didn't quite take to it immediately, but I've kept it all these years to give it another go very soon.
#489 - Tank! Tank! Tank! (Wii-U) - I got a Wii-U much later, but I was always interested in this from it's release because it reminded me of Earth Defense Force, and sure enough, when I did finally play it, it was exactly that. Whoopie!
Kind of a slow year for me really. Later I got into Assassin's Creed III, Forza Horizon, Skylanders Giants, Lego Lord of the Rings, and Sonic's All-Stars Racing Transformed and others, but I guess I was putting the most time into playing Borderlands 2 and Halo 4 this year.
Damn, sorry to hear your blog got lost - I'm guessing it's still there, you just couldn't see it. I just pushed a site update that let's you paginate through your drafts, so check out your dashboard and see if you can find it now using the paginator.
Oh great! Thanks so much.
Pokemon Conquest is one of the craziest crossovers I've ever seen.
Tank! Tank! Tank! was such a silly arcade game. I'm glad it made it to home consoles. Go Namco!
Oh, I forgot Tank Tank Tank was an arcade game. I remember seeing it at Round 1 last time I was there.
My wife bought Pokemon Conquest when it was relatively new. I don’t remember if she ever actually played it but she eventually traded it in for something else and I wish she hadn’t. It’s expensive now 😞
Pricey like all Pokemon games these days, but wow, Pokemon Conquest is going for some nice change. When I finally dig into it soon, I'll have to decide if it's good enough to keep.
