Some games just get better with 3D, or at least that's what Korean developer, Barunson Interactive hopes. The team has announced that they are currently developing a 3D update of Double Dragon II: The Revenge, for Xbox Live Arcade, known now as Double Dragon II: Wander of the Dragons.

Like the original release, you'll be able to beat up baddies with your buddies, but now you can do it in 3D. Though 3D, players are still on a side-scrolling quest as Billy and Jimmy Lee avenging the death of Billy’s girlfriend at the hands of the Black Warriors.

The story mode features single or two-player cooperative combat through four levels, complete with several bosses. This includes the newly designed whip-wielding Linda, machine gun Willy, a new female foe, and a giant living statue enemy. Burnov, an enemy from the arcade version, has shed his mask and is now shown as a genetically altered fighter.

Using elements from the original, stage one still features the helicopter in the background and the wheat field reappears in stage three. But rather than just release the remake with a new coat of paint, the game will offer some reworked level segments as well as some totally new ones.

Though based on the arcade release of the title, rather than the NES port, the game will incorporate some of the additions made there, like the helicopter ride. This time it will utilize quick time events, as will several other sections of the game.

Just like the NES version of the original Double Dragon, Wander of the Dragons features a versus mode that supports up to four players, with the selection of Billy, Jimmy, and now Marian (Billy’s girlfriend), along with several enemies. The game also contains a Survival Mode, where players choose their characters to test their ability to withstand a never-ending battle against the baddies.

Weighing in at 1200 Microsoft Points, the game still isn't confirmed to offer online play, potentially limiting the multiplayer to local only for either cooperative or head-to-head action. As the game nears release in September, more details about the game should become available.
