After a slew of celebrity accidents with the device, Nintendo revealed the 3DS doesn't use any type of 3D imaging.

Reggie Fils-Aime was noted as saying during the conference, "Our top video game psychologists have spent the last eight years researching the placebo effect. They found that media and consumers would believe a game is in 3D if we told them it was. This was to be the basis of our new handheld console, the Nintendo 3DS. Unfortunately, we realize some individuals found themselves caught too deep into the illusion, and for that we apologize."

Earlier this week, Stan Lee was hospitalized after jumping off the roof of his three-story home. Witnesses overheard the comic book mastermind exclaiming he was "Target-Shooting Man" defeating his vile dragon nemesis in the moments before the jump. In a similar incident, Michael Bay was admitted into a mental hospital on Thursday. Bay, the director of the films like Armageddon and the Transformers movies, was overheard screaming in pain, believing he had lost his legs in an explosion all while playing on his 3DS console.

Reggie added to his earlier statement, saying "We advised against children under the age of 7 for these specific reasons; with such vivid imaginations, young people would be at risk, unable to tell fantasy from reality. We didn't foresee so may creative individuals using the 3DS for their enjoyment, and we apologize for the risk we've placed on all those involved."

Later in the press conference, Reggie revealed the moments that Miyamoto appeared on stage during E3 2004 holding Link's sword were actually unplanned. Miyamoto was under the influence of a particularly hallucinogenic episode of the Nintendo 3D placebo effect, and believed he was Link, the hero in The Legend of Zelda, fighting evil in his homeland of Hyrule.

We here at PixlBit will try to keep you informed with the 3DS 3D scandal as the news breaks.

This is stunning news. I had no idea. Reggie also mentioned that people experiencing "3D Headaches" were those who weren't "True Believers," but I felt that took second fiddle to the real story.

I will have to say I'm going to take a closer look at Nintendo's next console. I don't want to be swindled again.
