Coming on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, the game will be available at an unspecified date this fall.

This time around, players will take control of Murphy Pendleton who finds himself lost in the woods after his prison transport bus crashes near Silent Hill. Showcased in the screenshots below are two new environments from the game, known as The Diner and The Devil's Pit.

After losing Akira Yamaoka to Grasshopper Manufacture, Konami has announced that Daniel Licht, composer for Showtime's hit TV series, Dexter, will be responsible for the soundtrack of Downpour. A 90 second sample of his work from Silent Hill: Downpour can be found on the Konami website.

Silent Hill 8 Officially Named Silent Hill: Downpour
KONAMI, today released the first screenshots and music from the highly anticipated survival horror game, Silent Hill: Downpour. Making its return to "next generation" consoles this fall, Silent Hill: Downpour will bring a completely original storyline, and all-new haunting soundtrack as players find themselves stranded in the foggy, malevolent world of Silent Hill.
Silent Hill: Downpour starts as Murphy Pendleton, the game's main character, finds himself lost and alone in the woods after his prison transport bus crashes near the town of Silent Hill. Silent Hill: Downpour is scheduled to be released in fall 2011 on Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system.

Huh, they haven't given up the series yet. Good for them, really run it into the ground.

Chris is playing some scary game. Of some sort. It's on the PC. I don't recall what it's called. Regardless, I can hear him scream a room over every time he turns it on. And that's just the same opening sequence!

The only problem is that I don't know the name of it! It's on the PC, and I think it's somewhat independent.

Can I list Silent Hill on my list of "Konami franchises that should die in dignity" along with Metal Gear Solid?

I'm hoping they bring some of the ideas from Shattered Memories into this game. I liked how your answers and actions in your sessions impacted the game world and enemies. I could see that becoming an even stronger role in new games.

I still haven't played Homecoming or Shattered Memories, but I'm hopeful that this is going to be a decent game. I think Silent Hill does a great job of creating a creepy atmosphere, but the actual gameplay has always been pretty questionable. Nevertheless, I remain hopeful.
