Just announced, from Tales Festival (in Japan this weekend): ToS and ToS2 HD remaster for the PS3! Due out Oct 10th in Japan! Already announced for North America/Europe in 2014!
One of the best JRPG announcements ever:
- One of the best entries in the Tales series, which got most of us current Tales fans into the series in the first place here in North America.
- Includes both ToS and ToS2 (ToS2 = obviously not as good, but brings closure to events from the original; and hey, we can always hope that there'll be additions/changes/awesomeness to follow)
- HD remaster.... wow. Screens for this are fabulous. See below for a few.
- Announced not only for Japan, but for North America/Europe immediately. (Hideo Baba = you are amazing; don't have to struggle through that weird anticipation phase where we're not quite sure if it'll get localized etc etc.)
- Teasing more announcements to come. ...... ........

That's Shameful Nintendo, you let the PS3 do this before you? It's bad enough Tales of Grace ddn't get a wider release.
Still, it's cool, i've only started ToSymphonia and haven't gotten round to buying 2.
I know, sad that the Wii version of Graces never made it here; espec for those Tales fans that only have a Wii and no PS3.... someone always gets shafted. Same way I felt when ToV PS3 never came here; c'mon, 360 only in North America? Bah. Hope that things change now that Baba realizes North America is in love with Tales as much as Japan is, heh.
Annnnyways. From my perspective kind of glad it's a PS3 HD remaster since imo Wii U graphics still don't measure up, but it's all a matter of perspective. Bit biased towards Sony as well tbh. But just glad it's coming here in some way shape or form!
Sweet. Can't wait for this. I know I am in the minority, but I even liked ToS2. I thought it was pretty funny. Tenebrae is still one of my favorite characters.
ToS2 = actually not horrible imo, just didn't like Emil. I liked Tenebrae tho, for sure!
Can't wait to replay this game since my memories of it are a bit skewed; intially bought it and my game disc was corrupt so froze at one boss every single time; spent a month trying to find another game disc; etc etc. Bit of a runaround so can't wait to experience the whole thing with no mid game glitches, heh.
Really happy about this. Symphonia is the game that got me into the Tales series, and though i already beat the game like 3 times, I think i could go for another playthrough. DotNW was alright, but i didnt care much for a second playthrough. That said, if they fix the original party members and make them useful, i think it will be alright.
@Jon: Loved the game too Jon but unfortunately my first playthrough was a bit mangled given the fact that I got a corrupted (used, to be completely honest) game disc and had to search around for another copy... which at the time, was hard to find since it was a bit of a rarer game by the time I got to it.
Needless to say, Symphonia was my portal into the Tales world as well and I'll always treasure it; hence would love to run through it again without any silly interruptions. While not my favorite game in the series (that honor would go to either Abyss or Xillia 2, which I just completed (import)), I'm still extremely excited to experience it again. And ToS 2 = icing on the cake.

Yeah, my favorite is Vesperia. Still kinda salty we never got the PS3 upgrade to that, but ill live. Really looking forward to Xillia, and hopefully Xillia 2. I hear Xillia 2 is def a step up from Xillia 1 which is good to know.
I'm kind of angry we never got the PS3 version either; especially with all the additional stuff that was added to the game (additional character- Patty; extra costumes; more scenes etc). So that was definitely a downer, although I believe Baba has renewed his faith in the North American/European market.
I could go on forever about Xillia and Xillia 2 since I love both, but main point: both are great games, but 2 edges out 1 just because you get the original cast, a couple of extra characters from the original and a few awesome new ones; plus plot is a bit better imo :) Can't wait for august 6th!
Anyone know if this is a physical release? That would make me happier.

I loved Tales of Symphonia and I still have number 2 but I may buy this anyway. I remember having the GC game day 1 and listening to all the people saying they were unable to find a copy. Good times. :)
Heh, I'm probably one of the ones who was looking for said copy- good on you mothman for getting your hands on one; since that day, I've been a hardcore pre-orderer (lol, it scarred me for life). Only half kidding!

Absolutely right, and considering that my GC copy of ToS sold a while back on Amazon this is a great opportunity to get it again.
Microsoft has burned its' bridges with Japan so I doubt this gem will surface on the 360. Still, at least I have my psp to keep me cozy! Ys 7 has been wonderful so far and I'm backed up with Jean d'ark,Ogre Battle, FF Tactics, and Crisis core!

Absolutely, I 100% agree. Lalabit collectors edition already announced for Japan, so just waiting on the collectors ed announcement for NA/Europe :)
