Over two years ago I posted a blog on 1up asking where the HELL is Strider?
At the time Capcom was catching flack for releasing a nearly carbon copy of 'Splosion Man and I started to wonder exactly what was going on with them. Marvel vs. Capcom 2 had come out and Strider was not part of the initial lineup of characters. There hasn't been a legit Strider game in forever, which is odd considering how many fans there are of the original arcade game, the NES game, and the mind blowing arcade port of the Genesis/Mega Drive version.
Strider seemed like a franchise just waiting to be rediscovered. Glad to see he hasn't been ignored. I know there has been a "spiritual successor" on XBLA but I played that game and didn't care for it.
This is a LEGIT Strider Hiryu game, the trailer looks great but I do have a few nit-picks already.
#1, I like that it has remixed music from the first game, but what made the original so special in that regard is how the music would change from scene to scene in each level. Whenever the background changed, so did the music. Its hard to tell if this new version will have the same effect.
#2. Looks like Strider is bullet sponge now. The flippy acrobatics and slashy attacks look great, but I see Strider running directly into streams of bullets without much penalty. I guess a health meter slowly depletes and when it runs out, you die. (in the traditional fashion, I hope). When you got hit in the original Strider it sent you tumbling. I'm afraid this game will suffer from button spam boredom, whats the point of avoiding getting hit when there is minimal penalty.
#3. This isn't a true current or next-gen game. I really wish Strider could get huge overhaul treatment. But a reimagining of the original is long overdue, too. I hope they keep the anti-grav levels, that round gravity mid-boss thing you fought in the original was awesome.
Aside from all this, I'm glad to see my old buddy Strider Hiryu getting some decent recognition. I can't wait to play it.

after what happened with the new Bionic commando game, I'm kind of glad this isn't getting the next-gen treatment... yet.

It's coming to the PS3, PS4, 360, Xone and PC.

Man, I sucked at what I've played of Strider, but they do seem like awesome games if you can get used to them. Very cool.
Fun fact: When I was in middle school, there was a contest to name a police dog. Someone else successfully named him Strider, because of the video game character.

Lord of the Rings movies had not released yet or even been advertised, and the kid had explained the reference, so no one actually. lol Unless someone in my middle school had read the books at that point, which is possible, but I kinda doubt it, this was like third grade. lol
I'm sure the kids in your school didn't mistake it, I mean like people in the precinct and the teachers, they would be familiar with the books.
Yeah, my English and Reading teachers would know about the books, and one of the officers may have read them, but I don't know if Strider is really enough of a household name to cause much dispute. He's no Gandalf, and while everyone was aware of the series, I'm sure, I've never gotten the impression that Tolkien is everyone's cup of tea, or that most adults would jump to Strider being an LotR character.
Actually, when the movies came out, my Reading teacher was confused when I said Strider was my favorite character, because she recognized the name Aragorn more readily. You're probably right though, one of them may have thought that was the reference before he explained it.
If it's cheap, I might end up getting it for the PS4. It looks like a decent enough game, just not really Strider, if that makes sense.

I was excited for this until I read in the press release that it was going to be an Xbox One game.

Not getting too excited over the return of strider just yet. But I get a bionic commando rearmed vibe from it so that's something I like.
