Hello Pixlbit! Earlier tonight I hit what I like to call the Vinyl Gold Mine at my local Goodwill. Instead of waiting until next week I thought I’d share my bounty now with you good folks (I'm a little giddy)…I also found some gaming related stuff so this blog can be considered a gaming related blog too.

Here is a group shot of my haul. All but 4 albums were $1.99 each. The four were $3.99 each which is a little steep but I figured it was because of a different manager. The rest of the ones I found were STEALS! STEALS I SAY! (and worthy of the capital letters). They were put out that morning and thank goodness I decided to follow the urge to check out Goodwill instead of taking a nap.

Here are the albums

A couple of Rolling Stones albums. Some Girls has these dust spots on the lp. The box these were found in a box with this odd yellow colored dust.

I already have a copy of Like A Virgin, but my copy is sealed. It’s nice to have an open copy

I have these on CD, but it’s nice to have them on vinyl

Some Police albums, and my favorite The Bangles. My favorite Bangles song “Standing In The Hallway” is from this album.

The B-52’s

Bow Wow Wow

Another Journey album, and Nena

Queen

Oingo Boingo and New York Dolls

Some band named The Beatles (I wonder what happened to them). And Led Zepellin

Bon Jovi and The Doors

Prince and Morris Day and The Time… “Me and Silent Bob modeled our whole f*****g lives around Morris and Jerome”

I already have Kiss on CD but c’mon it’s Kiss (I loved them growing up because of the makeup), and Bob Marley

And to end my vinyl gold mine, the Pretenders

So there you have it. This is my greatest vinyl dig.

Ok to make this video game related I picked up some Android games from Toys R Us. I went in to pick up a 360 money card and on the way out I spotted one of those baskets in the middle of the walkway that read all Appgear $1. Of course I’m going to stop and look, and they are the little toys that can be used with an app on either iOS or Android. There were a handful of different ones so I ended up picking up 2 each for my three young cousins (they love tablet gaming), and I picked up 4 that I wanted for my self.

Some random Zombie game. I ended up switching out one of the games for my cousins because I don’t know if they’d get nightmares about Zombies.

And I got three different versions of an Air Combat game. I'll probably give these games a try tomorrow instead of me yelling at the Cowboys.

Ok Pixlbit, that’s my cool stuff that I found. My Aztecs blew out Buffalo in the Potato Bowl. Who knew the kids from Sunny San Diego would have no problems in the cold?

That’s all for now, more later!

-Chris

Oh man, that B-52's album is the bomb. "Hero Worship" is my favorite song off that one, and yes I know what she's singing about. I still like it for its wild abandon.

I used to love vinyl. I had so much of it at one time too. I finally transitioned to digital when the price of vinyl approached used CDs at around $7. Vinyl used to be a cheap way to check out new music, albums for 25 cents or a dollar each. Now, not so much.

I haven't listened to that album yet, but I Google'd the lyrics, and looks like it's moving to the top of the pile in listening rotation.

I got into vinyl right around the tail end of Goodwill selling albums for .99 cents. It's a good format to check out older bands that maybe didn't convert these albums to digital or CD, and to actually have a B-Side, which is lost when it comes to CDs.

Near the end of "Hero Worship" Cindy Williams lets out a primal scream that is just perfectly placed. What a performance! I love that song.

Yea, some stuff is still not on CD. I used to have several vinyl albums that were never released on CD. Two was the first two classical guitarist Christopher Parkening albums. The songs on those albums were placed in perfect order to give the whole albums a great feel and now all you can get is best of collections of him. Luckily I have whole album rips on my computer from when I used to convert vinyl to mp3 files.

I'm still trying to find metal band Savatage's 1983 album Dungeons are Calling which is not on iTunes and may only exist on vinyl.

Oh yea... and the first two Fleetwood Mac albums are only available on vinyl but you can get all the separate tracks from a Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac compilation I got on CD. Still, those vinyls are unique and the cover art is nowhere else.

Those are some great albums! Seems like Rubber Soul would be marked up to fifty bucks at this point anywhere. Two bucks is pretty amazing.

Haha no kidding. When I pulled it out of the box, I wanted to just get up and head for the checkout, but I wanted to press my luck and see what else was there. Good thing too, because I found at least 15 more albums I wanted.

Holy Sinterklaas, Batman, now that's a good haul! I don't think there's a single artist in there I don't like. Believe it or not, my dad was going to ask for a turntable for Christmas initially. I am still getting him some books from probably Half Price Books, which sells vinyls as well. I'm going to be in there looking around and wondering what could have been. lol

You would think I'd know the Cowboys play today, considering my older brother works at Cowboys Stadium and I wear a hoodie of theirs he got me for Christmas one year all the time, but no. lol To be honest, they're the Dallas team I'm least attached to, despite my family ties. Our family ties are a bit stronger to the Green Bay Packers, though, considering my uncle was an honorary member on their board of directors before he passed, among other family connections. The Dallas Cowboys thing didn't always sit well with my grandpa on my mom's side when he was alive. He'd complain they were cheating, cause the old stadium had turf that rose in the middle of the field, which I think it actually did. lol

Once again though, it was a good idea to check out your blog for the heads up.

Hope your cousins like their gifts as well!

Oh that's cool. I got my grandpa one of those briefcase turntables because he likes to go outside and play some records.

I understand that. I live in the middle of Chargers territory and I had no connection to them. I own a couple of jerseys but that's about it. Oh I remember the field at old Texas Stadium. It's that older design where the bump in the middle made the water drain off to the sides. One of the local high schools here still has that type of field.

Thanks! Hopefully they do, but I think they like having something new on their tablet with some toys, than actually playing the game.

Yeah, in general I'm just not a sports guy the way most around me are. I definitely get into it all, but only for specific teams, and usually I only pay much attention when my favorites get into the playoffs. Speaking of which, hell of a win for the Cowboys yesterday, huh? We caught the end while out to lunch for my dad's birthday at Grimaldi's.

By the way, if you live near El Segundo, CA you should really go there (Grimaldi's) some time. Best pizza ever. That I've tasted, anyway.

And I'm curious, since you've always seemed to be a very music savvy guy, do you have a favorite artist, song, or LP, or some examples of what might make those lists for you?

Posted on December 30, 2013 1:05 AM

Thanks, but I'm a bit aways from El Segundo, but if I'm ever in the area, I'll check it out.

Hmm, I always found these questions to be difficult because I like so many different songs. I guess if I had to pick what was a consistant one for me, I would have to go with Fleetwood Mac, and my favorite song is As Long As You Follow. Love Christine McVie's voice. Two other bands I really love are Paramore and Dance Hall Crashers. Either of those groups are ever on the radio, I won't change the channel.

That's a lot of great music. Cool

Posted on December 23, 2013 3:55 PM

Thank you sir, and I can't wait to listen to them, and maybe add the ones I don't have on CD to my iTunes library for on the go listening.

Some great record picks there. I still have a lot of vinyl and a working turntable. To me it is still the best way to listen to music. A lot of CDs of the same music sound thin and lifeless in comparison. The vinyl is final! :)

I do like the little pops and hisses that some records have. It's adds to the charm of the format. Hopefully I can run into more finds like this before eBay Guy gets there.

Hopefully the game is decent too. I found one of the airplane games to be tough
