Shinobi III was the third Shinobi game to be released exclusively for the Genesis (the first two being The Revenge of Shinobi and Shadow Dancer: The Secret of Shinobi), and is arguably the best in the trilogy. Joe Musashi (who wears white for some reason) can attack with sword and shurikens; he can also jump, double jump, and wall jump. The game has some really cool levels, such as Joe riding on horseback, surfing, and (my personal favorite) a level where he infiltrates a lab full of mutant experiments. The game is fantastic until near the end, when things become brutal. At this point, you can choose to spend tons of time trying to master this difficulty in order to finish the game, or just say "forget it." Apart from this insane Ninja difficulty, the game holds up very well, and is considered one of the best games on the Genesis. And truly, only a real ninja can beat the game.

Shinobi III was great because Joe controls in a smoother manner.  everything feels pretty fluid.  Not to mentoin, the graphics and were quite awesome for a Genesis game.

You're right, the controls were tight and the graphics were very awesome. Also, the music is super cool (Whirlwind song is incredible!).

Another really cool-looking ninja game! I probably wouldn't last more than a few levels, but at least I'm pretty sure I'd have a blast trying.

Well I'm sure you'll atleast make it to level 6 (that's when the game starts to become insane).

I never really made it that far in Shinobi 3, but definitely agree that it's one of the best Genesis games. I plan on beating it one of these days. I wonder if they got that surfing level from the TMNT games on NES. Undecided

The surfing level is one of the best in the game! Ninja + Surfing=Crazy Awesome Fun Level that needs to be in every Ninja Game!

Are you considering to changing you last name to Musashi, Joe? That would be wise...

I'm making Mushashi tonight. It's great with seaweed and a little Wasabi.

Which Shinobi game did Yuzo Koshiro do the music for?

I liked when Shinobi rode a horse.  It was a ninja horse!

Koshiro did the music for Revenge of Shinobi. 3 Japanese guys did the music for this one, and it is killer music!

I never had this one.  I've played it on emulation though, not bad.  This is a classic series for sure.

Classic and Ninjatastic.

I love the graphics in this game. The horseback riding segment is so cool.
