When Ben asked the community here if anyone wanted to write some music for his RPG, Gutterdelve, I was tied up finishing the last song for Pirate Code. But I sent him a message once I was done with that, asking if he still needed music. He said it'd be great to have some boss music. It took me a couple weeks to work on it (life was busy), but then he didn't answer his messages because he was so consumed with finishing the game...and never got the song.
Once the game was out, my song just sat on my hard drive, all but complete, for months and months. The other night I finally put in the last hour or two necessary to get it finished up (put in a loop, fade it out, etc.) and here we are. "Death in the Gutter" has an orchestral backbone but features a grungy guitar and heavy percussion throughout. It's a high-energy song meant for intense boss struggles.
Let me know what you think!
Y'know, I've been looking at your profile picture for some time, but never really got that full image in my head. Interesting.
I'm going to comment on that instead of the music, since you specifically asked for comments on the music, cause that's how blog comments work.
Nah, it's a cool song. Sounds like a modern Castlevania tune to me, but that may just be because I play a lot of DS Castlevania and not many games I play have similar guitar in them. I'd ask Ben if maybe he can't still make that boss music.
Castlevania is definitely a big influence for me. I especially love those ones on the DS! But since Ben's game has already come out, I've decided to just keep this as a portforlio piece as an example of this kind of song.
Ah man! I just want to get in there and go turn-based battling like crazy!
that's some great battle music, man! very classic. I'm ready to take on those monsters!
Nice work, I like what I ve played with Gutterdelve and this music would sit very nicely with however of course a true opinion would lay with the grandmaster himself! hope Ben likes it as much as I do.
I do hope Ben likes it too, though it won't be going in the game now. Not much point to that.
This is good stuff. Wish Ben had gotten it for the game.
Yeah, I was bummed when he forgot about me but the song will still be useful for me. Glad you like it!
Very cool. Has a Castlevania meets Final Fantasy kind of vibe going on.
Great song. Maybe if Ben makes a sequel to Gutterdelve, you can ask him to not forget putting the song.
Damn great song!
It works. Now I need to see how this music plays out in this game.
Well, it's not in the game, so you'll have to use your imagination
