i guess I spoke a bit prematurely about going back to work.

I ended up getting laid off today, first day back after injury.

I'm not too terribly upset about it...this affords me a shot at better opportunities.  The way I see it, I was with this last place for 5 years; they weren't doing anything really special for me.  The pay was shit when compared to the finished product I was turning out.

So, on that note, I'm in the market for a job again.  I've got a couple things lined up.

In gaming news, I played through and beat Dark Souls on NG + and I finished another run through Dark Souls 2 with a 40/40 Str/Dex build.  I made it through 99% of the game without a shield....which was fucking CRAZY...I'll probably never do it again like that.  I'm wanting to take this swordsman and turn him into a Sorcerer for my NG + playthrough....however, I'm going to wait for the DLC to drop before I get another run into Dark Souls 2.  As for the first game....I've seen and done enough in it, and won't be returning for playthrough #3.

Other than that, I'm going to get back into exercise.  Most of you don't know this about me, but I'm a total Pothead, have been for years...and I'm sick of it, and ready for a change.  I figure the sweating will help me with....well, everything.

Anyhow, hope everyone's doing well.

I go through phases with pot.  sometimes I'm a pothead, and then for years I'll go without it.  I'm in a dry phase now, haven't smoked it for at least a year.  Honestly, it isn't too hard a habit to break, as it's not really chemically addictive, just is a habit you have to break.  If you feel like stopping, go for it.  Sometimes It's nice to be sober.

I'm sorry to hear about your job.  That's kind of a shitty thing for them to do.  But oh well.  I hope you find something better and more rewarding!

Phew, I'm glad I'm not the only smoker here.

You're right, not a really addictive substance.  I've been smoking for too many consecutive years.  Time for a nice long break.

I guess I should've seen this coming from my former workplace.  Ahh well....at least I ended up with a good skillset from being there.

Wow. Being fired right out of injury recovery. Was this a work related incident? Even if not, if that would have happen to me such a company would be in serious trouble with the ministry of labour.

Posted on July 1, 2014 9:11 PM

It wasn't a workplace injury, so they had no real obligation to keep me hired.

Posted on July 1, 2014 9:23 PM

I'm guessing in California there are no labour laws that can protect you?

Posted on July 3, 2014 4:15 AM

not if I am injured outside of the workplace.  they didn't waste any time bringing in the greenest fucking greenhorn they could find to train up.

Huh what a bunch of cocksuckers. I hope you find a job that is reasonable to deal with man. After leaving my first job (I spent 10 years there) I have been through 1 place (about 5/6ish months), and I'm currently at another place, and in both cases I've had to deal with annoying humans/working conditions.

They fired you your first day back from injury? Damn, that's cold. I hope the job search and exercise goes well.

Posted on July 1, 2014 9:12 PM

Cold indeed.  It's going good, Step.  I've got stuff lined up already.  I'm not able to sit and be idle with it, on account of having a family and all.  Thanks buddy!

Well sorry about the Job but like you said its probably for the better, and im 48 years young and smoked pot for at least half my life and grew my own at that but now im drug free well except pain killers for my hip I will have to have replaced but I quit drinking and smoking weed many years ago and actually see nothing wrong with weed, never heard of a person overdosing on pot but still its great that you want to get better and I have to admire ya for that. As far as Dark Souls I traded My two copys awhile back like an idiot so now I need to get all three and beatem yea right I have like 50 years worth of NIS games to play that I wont finish in my lifetime ha ha!!!

Posted on July 1, 2014 9:13 PM

Another pothead hehehe.  Nah, just kidding.

50 years worth of NIS....there are worse ways to die lol

Sorry about your job, mate. But it seems as if they were taking you for granted so yeah, this might be a blessing in disguise! Exercise is always a good idea! As for pot? Eh, I don't think it's that bad to smoke the occasional bowel recreationally but I guess anything taken to excess can slow you down. Cutting back on it will save you money and clear your mind more at any rate! Wink

Posted on July 1, 2014 10:31 PM

I remember that time I smoked a bowel. Never again.

Posted on July 1, 2014 11:13 PM

lol.  Never smoked a bowel.  Or a spleen.

Thanks Ben for your support.  They really were getting me for dirt cheap.

I only got second hand pot smoke from my big band brothers. Other than that, I really haven't tried the stuff, but I just heard it was decriminalized in Philly. Of course, that's the city and not the suburbs where I live.

lmmfao

One time, I got second hand smoke from someone at work and didn't realize I was a little high until I got home and couldn't focus on the details of an astronomy show i was watching. I noticed that all I was doing was getting all spaced out on the pictures. Then I knew something was up. Funny huh?

Geez man sorry about the job but props for keeping the positive attitude.

Good to read that you're getting back into exercise. It seems like everyone is getting back into it, and I should be too. As for the pot use, good for you man!

Ouch that's harsh. Glad to see your taking it well but still that's just wrong in how they did that! I've heard many stories from my "work-mercenary" friends (temps) who are seeing more and more of them taking the place of full time workers at half the pay. Even my bro out east was forced to "quit" when they tried to relocate him to the midwest wherethen he could resign with benefits. how they hell would that help him when he was forced to relocate with no assistance?!?!?1

I need to experiment with my dark souls game in character classes. not liking my basic fighter right now.

Good for you in getting back into shape. I'm still trying myself given how I'm wasted after a day at the office and Ace combat Infinity isn't helping matters.

Posted on July 10, 2014 6:55 PM

Thanks brother!!

Posted on July 10, 2014 7:10 PM

I haven't smoked anything in years largely because I no longer have any connections to that world and secondly because I can't afford to be blowing money that way.

Don't have a problem with it though.

Crappy what your employer did to you. I'm thinking you probably have grounds for some sort of action against them if you wanted to.

Ive since quit. The job search continues

Posted on July 10, 2014 10:30 PM

I'll keep thinking happy thoughts for ya Dan. :)

Go Dan Go!

Posted on July 10, 2014 11:28 PM

some might jest at that....but brother....I fully believe in the power of positive reinforcement.

I'm not at all ashamed to admit that I can use all the positive vibes thrown my way.  =)

Posted on July 11, 2014 12:19 AM

If it wasn't for positive vibes I probably wouldn't be talking to you right now.

This may be a platitude but it's not how many times you fall down,it's how many times you get back up that counts.

Posted on July 12, 2014 2:31 AM

platitude or no, I draw strength from all such support.  Thanks, Peter!!!
