I didn't interact much with media in 1990; out of school and desperately looking for work to get by didn't leave much time for anything else. I think I heard that band World Party and their single Way Down Now on the radio. I always like them. I was probably listening to rock radio, so I likely heard Alice in Chains and Jane's Addiction for the first time. Gaming didn't happen at all. I didn't read anything either other than Arthur Janov's Primal Scream book (I was doing the therapy at the time). I saw Akira Kurosawa's Dreams in the theater that year with my girlfriend. That's one I remember clearly because it was really good. Eventually I got work doing maintenance at a resort in the woods (I wanted to get into publishing but I got no responses). It was like a summer camp for rich New Yorkers. I did all sorts of jobs there, and it was nice to be outside all the time. I got the nickname "Monk" there for my reticence.
So what to sample from this year? For music, the highest on my list are these:

For games, I think I'll play Dr. Mario. I can get it on virtual console for 3DS. Revisiting Final Fantasy would be my second choice.
For books, I think I'll try and read Michael Crichton's Jurassic Park.
Finally in film, I'd like to see The Witches, featuring Jim Henson studio's puppetry and based on a Roald Dahl book. I just read Dahl's Matilda and loved it. I'll go for anything related to him now.
And that's 1990. I'm hoping some of the films I've chosen will be on Netflix streaming like Rockula staring Thomas Dolby as the villain, or Van Damme's Lionheart, or scifi comedy Spaced Invaders for the weekend.
Some of my favorite movies in 1990 were Dances With Wolves, Die Hard 2, Arachnophobia, and Hunt for Red October. I have no idea what I was listening to at the time, and I wasn't gaming much at that time in my life.
I want to see Hunt for Red October again because I just finished the book.
Streaming on Netflix 
. I own my own copy, though, because it's one case where the movie was better than the book.
I thought the book was ok, but it didn't have as much excitement as the movie except in the very last part of the book.
There's actually a new Dr. Mario game on the 3DS eShop called Dr. Mario: Miracle Cure. My review of it goes up next week.
There were a lot of good NES games in 1990 you could play: Dr. Mario, Mario 3, Mega Man 3, Little Nemo: The Dream Master, Final Fantasy, etc.

I really enjoyed Jurassic Park the book. In fact I think it was the first or one of the first audiobooks I ever listened to. I really loved the beginning of the book. Ooh Van Damme's Lionheart. I grew up watching his flicks. I liked Kickboxer and Bloodsport more than Lionheart but its still a good watch.
Funny thing about Dr. Mario. I actually got into that game after playing it on emulator years later. I never had any interest to play it when it was the new thing on the Nintendo
I'll probably listen to Jurassic Park on audio book format as soon as I finish The Bourne Supremacy. Luckily a lot of van damme's movies are streaming on Netflix right now.
I like puzzle games after playing Super Puzzle Fighter a few years ago.
Super Puzzle Fighter is so good. I bought the digital version of Capcom Puzzle World for that game. It is a shame that it won't work on the Vita because that (and Fight Night Round 3) would always be on the memory stick.
I love Kurosawa's dreams. Unfortunately, it's not on bluray.
