I'll do it here because unlike Facebook it won't be seen by family until next week when everything is sorted and I'm busting to tell someone.
Starting January 4th I have a new job. I'm leaving the school board for a position as an Engineer in the Identity and Access Management space. It's what I was doing for the Hospitals back before 2010 and it's more in line with where I belong at this point in my career. It's also a 22k increase in salary so SCORE!
I'm excited, sad and scared all at the same time. This is what I've been dreaming I'd get back to since I left it but I love my job at the school board. The difference I make there for teachers, students and office staff is huge. They just don't pay worth a shit and sticking around would mean bankruptcy so I have to leave. It's making me very sad though.
Also scared because I need to apply some oil to my skills to get back up to speed. Can I do it? I bloody well hope so.
So I'm a bit confused with emotions at the moment.
There, I've told someone. Now I might not explode. The school board won't find out until Monday. My boss and senior management will not be pleased. :(
Yay! I'm so happy for you! Now I can foresee a wii u in your futrue... Sometime.
i know you had it rough lately financially so I am so happy to hear this!
congrats Peter!
Thanks Matt. I'm really hoping this is the light at the end of the tunnel.
I'm going to have to brush up some skills for my new job in January as well ... and start apartment hunting, which I can't do until like 2 weeks from now due to my traveling circus of a job. Speaking of which, I need to download the Adobe Cloud thingy to start knocking out some InDesign/PhotoShop tasks I need the kids to do.
We can do it! And I'm glad you're getting an increase in salary! I'm going into a field that can pay very well after tenure, but ... right now it's more of a lateral move financially.
It's going to be great Joe. I'm happy that you're going to be "moving on up" sometimes the lateral move pays off.
Congrats, buddy!
Tanx!
Good for you! I know things have been very tight for you for a while, so this sounds much overdue. And a 22k increase? Awesome! I just hope this new job doesn't suck up all your free time.
I'm sure it will at first. I have a lot to re-learn.
Congrats man! That's a fucking pay rise and a half! And you seem to be passionate about it, so sweet! It sucks that you have to leave your old job, but if it's not paying you well enough there's not much you can do.
Nope, I never really had a choice. This came along in the knick of time and saved me from bankruptcy.
Congratulations, sir! Couldn't have happened to a better person
New job sounds very interesting. As a fellow engineer, I'd love to hear more about it when you get started!
I'll be supporting existing installations at first, making sure drivers between systems stay up and troubleshooting when they don't. Once I'm back up to speed again I'll be doing that plus project work on new installations.
Great! Good luck!
Thanks.
Yay!
Yay indeed. I was at the end of my rope.
Congratulations! Good luck with the new job!
Thanks Ashley, I've go a lot of work to do to get back up to speed.
Congrats! Best of luck!
Thank you sir.
Awesome sauce dude! I hope you enjoy your new job. It's always nice when you can move up and make siginificantly more money too.
Congrats on the job man! I read your newer blog about losing all the tech (sorry again about that) but you get a new challenge with more $$$. I think you'll be fine and will be caught up in no time.
Man, since i've been unactive around here, you scared me by thinking you were leaving this site.
Congrats on the new job!
