Donkey Kong was Nintendo's first huge hit. It set the arcades on fire in 1981 and was later ported to the Famicom and NES. The game only has four levels which loop endlessly, getting a little harder each time until you finally have a Game Over. In 1994, Nintendo remade this game for Game Boy. It starts with the exact same four levels of the original, but upon beating them, the game continues with 97 brand-new levels! But that's not all. Mario can also perform new moves, such as handsprings and backflips! In addition to Donkey Kong and Pauline, Donkey Kong Jr. also makes some appearances to try and hinder Mario. To differentiate from the first game, this Game Boy game has become known as Donkey Kong '94, and it's a solid puzzle platformer.
97 new levels. DLC now would never give you that much content.
It was a staggering surprise to be sure. 50 level would've been fine, but 97!
There was never a Gameboy in our house until the GB Advance so I never got to play this game. That's a lot of levels.
It's available on the 3DS virtual console if you have that available, and it's worth it!

This was a good update, and I also appreciated that in the "prologue" (classic levels) that they included the Cement Factory, which was cut from most home versions including the NES version.

The levels get pretty tough near the end. This is no cakewalk!
This is one of the best Game Boy games. Period. I wish the Mario vs. Donkey Kong series had stuck with this style.
Yeah, the MvDK games kinda devolved into different things (like collecting all the mini marios and helping them find their way to the end). The first one was great, but this game outshines it still.
