I definitely took my sweetass time (More on Why Later) getting around to grading some papers this weekend, which means students will get them back Wednesday. I had them marked up, but this was one where the grading will be a bit weird because there are things they should know by now, but also some stuff I haven't gone over I won't take off for. So that will be "fun."
Just got the 63 audio projects I'll be needing to grade in today. More "fun."
Also, I think the schedule has me giving my writing class another lab this Friday on top of letting them make up the not-completely-objective parts of their last assignment and my Intro Social Media class will have to do presentations/abstracts (so just one page, but more writing to grade) this Thursday.
Why the hell do I assign work when I know it's just more work for me? What is my problem? At least good ol' 101 is still just Scantron tests. Scantron is a robotic superhero for teachers and professors. Thanks, Scantron, for making things sooooo much easier.
Anyway, I can't pretend the reason I was late on grading was because I had car or health issues or something legitimate. No, I knew this was my last truly "free" weekend for a while and took full advantage.
I played more Rise of the Tomb Raider after getting stuck on a certain puzzle and feeling dumb about the solution (Ok, so THAT's why the post was there next to the other thing I needed the rope for ... well, no shit). So I've made ... 1% of progress into the story (totalling 26%) but with all the side stuff I'm doing, Lara should be overpowered by the time I need to do anything special.
I rented Suicide Squad and Magnificent 7 for 50 cents each via PS+.
SS was not as bad as the Tomatometer would have you believe. I'd say it's a little better than the Thor movies, which are my least favorite of the Marvel ones. Generic? Sure, but still fun enough that a rental didn't seem like a bad decision.
As for M7, it seemed like a really good movie from what I saw of it. Really need to work on my phone addiction ... so can't really say I saw most of that one, but the opening was great and the glimpses I caught from there were really well shot.
In theaters, I saw both Lego Batman and John Wick 2. Both were exactly what I was expecting and both were great for what they were.
I'm definitely in the minority on liking Lego Batman more than Lego Movie, but I do. I liked that one too, but I wasn't near as obsessed with it as everyone else seemed to be. Yeah, Batman is "more for kids," I guess, but that doesn't mean "bad." And come on, there's even a dick joke in the movie, so some of it was for parents. The Cinema Snob said he just liked Return of the Caped Crusader more, which I can't speak to since I've not seen it. I thought LB was side splittingly hilarious though, so I enjoyed it.
John Wick 2 was the first one, but better for me at least cause I saw it in a theater, unlike the last one I saw at a friend's place. It takes longer to get going than you would think, but once it does it doesn't stop. Think The Raid and The Raid 2 as somewhat comparable to this series, but with more knee and headshots than karate chopping action.
Whelp, if there's gonna be a week where I miss BaD, it'll be this one. I'll try not to, but in the meantime, stay toasty Pixlbits.
I wasn't obsessed with Lego movie either. I find those a little too busy visually, to be honest. But they're still good.
Ah, Scantron. I remember those.
Could be worse: Project Fuck Volcano!
In this one, you can kinda tell some of the backgrounds are pre-rendered, but I thought the character animations added to the humor.
Project F Volcano sounds fun, to be honest ...
Project Ass Quake?
Project Boob Tornado?
Project Dick Tsunami?
Project Androgyna? Like Mass Effect: Andromeda, but with more Dionysian androgyny?
Ha! I am a pro-fess-or! (But really I haven't read much at all on Dionysus since high school).
Did I win? Did I sound smart, but in a precocious or pretentious way with an air of superiority about me?
you totally win with the term "dionysian androgyny"
!!!!
Next thing you know I'll be doing kinky stuff so much it becomes a comic book character! I.e. wonder woman
Scantron's still around, huh? I remember when we first got those in my elementary school.
I'll probably skip out on Suicide Squad. Doesn't look like a "Cary" movie to me.
Does Magnificent Seven have the classic theme song? When I was in high school, one year our marching band did a Western show, and that was one of the songs we played. So I know it well!
If all goes according to plan, I'll be seeing the LEGO Batman Movie with my brother tonight. And then I need to review the LEGO Batman Movie Story Pack for LEGO Diimensions!
I didn't even know there was a John Wick movie until everyone's been talking about the sequel. Sometimes I wonder if I live under a rock.
Yes, and they are glorious. Just run that thing through a machine and bam! Instant grading of multiple choice tests and or items.
Suicide Squad was just ok, so by no means am I saying anyone should run out and see it if they're not interested.
I honestly don't know. I think so?
Have fun!
John Wick was a sleeper hit, not a major blockbuster, so it doesn't mean you live under a rock. I felt the same way when Transporter 2 came out ... and then Jason Statham became famous. Keanu Reeves was already famous before John Wick, so maybe that makes a difference. Who knows?
I didn't think Suicide Squad was bad. I enjoyed it enough to watch it again some day. I thought it was better than the Thor movies too.
I plan to see John Wick 2 soon. I loved the first movie and if the 2nd is more of the same, I'm there. May take the kids to see Lego Batman.
Yeah, usually I like the Marvel movies better, but the fact the first Thor is fresh on Rottentomatoes and Suicide Squad is in the 30s or something extreme is BS. I consider them both 60% kinda movies. Not great, but decent for a popcorn viewing.
Both of those options are good ones. JW2 has a bit too much dialog in the start for my taste, but it ramps up quite a bit when it finally gets going. And once I learned why there was all that dialogue, I wasn't mad, though I probably would FF a bit at home still. The kids will love Lego Batman and there'll be some jokes for you, especially if you ever watched 60s Batman.
I havent played the new Tomb Raider actually. I stuck to my guns and refused to buy it when they pulled that BS timid exclusive nonsense. I have been thinking of buying it since it finally released on PS4 but it will probably have to be during one of the big breaks from new game releases. I hope your week goes well!
I was annoyed by XBO exclusivity too, but it was $30 with all dlc for me so I'm quite content w it. Id's a great game.
That's weird. Never even encountered any glitchs on my playthrough of Rise.
I got through it when i started again.
Really want to play the new Tomb Raider games. I hope I have an opportunity to rent one.
They are beautiful, if nothing else. And whatsacow HATED the first one, so yiou know it's good.
LoL
Oh Scantron tests, you were the best. Have you messed with your class and made every correct answer C? I always thought that would be hilarious.
63 audio projects to grade, that is insane. Hopefully they're short projects.
I have yet to watch Suicide Squad or M7. I'm holding on to Squad for a rainy day or a long trip. Next week when everything here calms down a bit I want to check out Lego Batman and John Wick 2. The original was a surprise for me and I can't wait to watch the second flick.
No, but I had a teacher in HS who made A the correct answer on everything because it was the least guessed.
They are, I made them turn in two 30-second ads as opposed to the usual minute.
Suicide Squad is definitely a decent airplane movie. lol
