I used to watch the oscars a long time ago.  I was much more into movies back then.  I'm not so into them anymore, for some reason, though I wish I watched more of them. But if I had a choice to make movies or games, I think I would pick games.  

I have gotten back into everything I was already into after experiencing anhedonia for so long. 

But I never really watched the Grammys despite being interested in music and nowadays you get highlights the next day anyway, so I really don't blame anyone for not watching awards shows.

Suicide Squad won for makeup and hair! YES! Ok, not a great flick, but I was so into the comics for a while there, I wanted to like it more.

Ennui is another. I got tired of hearing that word in my high school AP English class. Brideshead Revisited and The Sun Also Rises put me in a state of ennui. And why wouldn't they, when that word and its meaning seemed to be what that class revolved around? 

Apparently, Escape from Arkham Asylum is a much better Suicide Squad movie. Since it's a DC Animated film and those are usually great, I believe it. I'll have to rent that on PSN some time.

Ooo! Escape from Arkham Asylum sounds great! I want to watch that. I love the Asylum stuff and all the villains there. My favorite place in Batman. Am I weird? Probably.

I want to read Grant Morrison's A Serious House on Serious Earth. 

That was number 8 on Forbidden Planet's 50 best list. I read it a while back. It's a goodie.

I seriously believe people have been brainwashed to overreact to insignificant events. The media uses terms like "shocking" "jaw dropping" "EPIC flub" to describe what happened. And they do this over and over again, every day of the year on any kind of topic. Mouths agape, wide eyed expressions...because the wrong results were read. No, it's not shocking, jaw dropping, or epic. Reminds me of a Louis CK bit about the way we talk, using words like "amazing" to describe a basket of chicken wings. So what's the reaction if aliens or Jesus appear on Earth? We've already thrown 'amazing' at fast food, and 'jaw dropping' at someone messing up at an awards show.

It was honestly handled pretty well, given the circumstances. I stand by calling Double Toasted amazing though. "Those guys are deer-fuckingly hilarious." - Louis C.K.

I'm glad you posted the Oscar winners so I could see who won, but I don't really care too much since I haven't seen any of those movies anyway.

It is always interesting to me to see which animated feature and short wins, though.  Glad to see that Piper won.

I WANT TO SEE THEM, but yeah I haven't either (caps unintentional, was filling out tax forms in another window). 

I'll have to look up the shorts on YouTube later and see if they're there. 

I've always skipped the Oscars. To me they always skip what I call the fun movies, plus with everyone going political I didn't want to hear rich folks lecture people watching. My friend was watching it and he told me about the ending. I thought it was done on purpose to keep the Oscars in the news especially when everyone thought it was going to be La La Land winning everything. 

I do like that Jimmy had call backs to his "feud" with Matt Damon. I was trying to listen to Adam Carolla's podcast before the Oscars because he was reading off his unused jokes for Kimmel but I just couldn't get through it. 

I'm glad that OJ Made in America won. It is a damn good documentary but I could have done without the crimescene photos. Those were hard to look at. At some points I will buy a physical copy. I remember watching the chase live and I always thought the OJ story wa interesting. 

Do you often buy physical copies of stuff available on Netflix? I have a grasp on how Netflix works, but given that I don't know if the license agreements mean much money for the movie distributors themselves, I've been wondering what they really get out of it lately. It would have to be either big money licenses (probably most of those are going to Disney/Marvel stuff on Netflix, everyone else is just happy to get their movie out there) or hoping someone buys the DVD/Blu Ray once they've seen it on Netflix and it;s not on there any more/they want the special features.

I have not listened to the ACE podcast for some time. 

Kimmel definitely had a couple Trump digs (mostly related to Meryl Streep and Twitter) and there was that Iranian movie speech, but I didn't think it was as bad as it could have been politically. Then again, I'm on the Libertarian Left on the political compass and a Solid Liberal slightly left of center according to a Pew quiz, so maybe I just don't notice/mind as much as, say, the rest of my immediate and extended family. lol 

But hey, they gave some "fun" movies love. Zootopia and Suicide Squad have Oscars and Arrival looks like a decent sci-fi flick. I'll be honest though, I have seen almost none of the nominess. Part of that was most of them never screened in Nac, and some never even came to Lufkin. 

I rarely buy physical copies of movies/tv shows nowadays. I have a ton of DVDs that I never watch, but I'm ripping them so I can at least stream them to my TV or have when I go on trips. I will buy physical if I really dig the flick or its really cheap. Some of the stuff on Netflix I already own (the older stuff) but at times it is easier to just stream it from there than search for the DVD, but I've thought about buying House of Cards.

I don't know how their license agreement works but I'm assuming its similar to what HBO/Showtime and other movie channels offer. I guess for the smaller flicks its exposure and maybe it will drive more sales of their physical media. 

I'm beginning to not want to listen to Carolla. More and more its become more of the same and I'd rather listen to something new. We shall see how much longer I keep it in the podcast lineup.

I tend to jump political parties, hell the last three elections I've had a different party because I didn't like the candidate, or the stance. I think I'm like the majority of folks who like portions of what each major party offers but is tired of all the constant bikering by both sides. Throw some common sense in the mix and I think we would all be in a better place.

They did give some fun flicks some love but when the heavy hitter categories come they are nowhere to be found. I've avoided La La Land because of the hype, and I couldn't even tell you if the other flicks are in the local swanky theater (they probably are). 

I've thought about HoC and Daredevil as well, for special features. Maybe Netflix will eventually have special features as premium content.

Is Carolla still #1?

I never vote straight ticket down ballot and have only voted for a Democrat and third party president in the two presidential elections I voted in. I was very close to voting for McCain until Palin showed up and very close to voting for Romney before finding out he also was in favor of the NDAA. Unfortunately, I was unable to vote last year due to complications regarding me getting out of jury duty and living in a different city than the jury duty. I plan to vote in the midterms, since I almost never miss an election. Part of it was expecting Texas to go to Trump regardless of my vote, and I wasn't excited about Clinton, so while I still would have voted had I been able to, I stayed home.

Well, you're in Cali, so I bet they are too. Dallas's Magnolia Theater probably has them too. I have tastes more similar to the Academy than mainstream sometimes (favorite movie is Cinderella Man), others not so much (second favorite is Chasing Amy). I seem to dig movies with girly sounding titles. lol
