I've Hit a Wall in Zelda and...

...I don't know if it's me or the game. I mean, obviously, I have a problem finishing games. I tend to get 3/4 through and just lose steam. Lately this has been true of Andromeda and Final Fantasy XV. Well, it finally happened in Zelda. But like the other games, I'm not really tired of it, in fact, I'm excited about seeing the rest of it. I've just lost momentum, and when I do play, it's only in short bursts rather than in marathon sessions.

I really like Zelda, but I still kind of wish there was a story/campaign that was linear that I could go to when I got sick of exploring. I'm at the point now where I've explored a lot, but am kind of underpowered to do some stuff. I'm working on powering myself up, but the going has been slow. NOw, don't get me wrong, I think this is an amazing, groundbreaking game. I just am a little lost in it right now.

It also doesn't help that I'm working very hard on my writing, and can think of little else than that. I've been pretty productive lately, and I can't really focus on games right now. I'm even a couple weeks behind on Twin PEaks, dammit.

I have played a little Dragon Quest VIII on the 3DS (got my party wiped out, I was complaining to Rangergirl about it) and a little Final Fantasy 12, which is a truly impressive re-release.

In other news, things are ok here. My old Taco is still ticking, but it's sad to see her state sometimes. But she's not ready to go yet, and I still treasure my time with her.

Anyway, that's about it. Hope you all are doing well!

I've actually hit a lot of walls with gaming in my lifetime that ended up totally derailing me. I'm not fortunate enough to be enjoying BotW yet, but I have had plenty of games where I've gotten loss or ended up against a tough boss that I can't get past, stopped playing, and then got too caught up in other stuff.

I only work weekends now (still get paid the same salary, though, yay me!) so I have a lot more free time on my hands for gaming. I'm thinking about working on a concept I have for RPG Maker MV, an JRPG-styled version of the old Taipan! computer game.

this game?

I've heard you and Tami talk about that before. That game is definitely cool. Doing it in RPGmaker would definitely be a change of pace for that engine. I have to admit, though I've given up on my game, I miss Unity sometimes. It's so powerful and fun (though hard) to use.

Cool about your new job!

Oh yea, that game based on that James Clavell novel I wanted to read. I read his Shogun book and really liked it. Taipan is about China. Sounds fascinating. I should play the game.

We decided to put off getting Zelda till we got a Switch because we were going to buy one as soon as possible. But we coldn't find one and then life pressured its way back in and then we didn't have the money for one and now it'll be Christmas time before we do get it. If I'd realized it would come to this at the time, I would have just gotten it on Wii U but now I'm about to get swamped with Yakuza Kiwami (trying this series for the first time), Destiny 2, Samus Returns, and Raiden V. So I might as well just wait till we get a Switch -___-

By the way, I happened to get on Twitter the other day--which I almost never do!--and I saw your tweet about your book being free for a limited time on Amazon, so I picked it up and started reading it this morning! I still just in the first chapter but so far I'm pretty interested Smile

hey cool man, thanks a lot. I got a shitty review today, so if you do read it, please be kind and leave me a nice review!  :)

I just told myself I HAD to have a switch by the time Mario came out, and the opportunity arose, so I took it. I hadn't planned on getting one so early, but now I'm prepared for Mario, so I'm pleased with that.

Most games I find tend to lose steam when you get to the second half. Most games are longer than they should be and are padded for extra length because some gamers insist their games to be as long as possible.

yeah a lot of games are probably bigger than they need to be. But some people like that I guess. I just feel bad when I don't get the same enjoyment out of them.

I hit several walls in Dragon Age Origins until I decided to fuck it and set the dificulty to Easy. Game is more fun this way for me. Let's me focus on story/plot rather than dealing with the abrasive difficulty in Normal. I only hit the walls at the 40 hour mark, so it's not like I wasn't trying.

You don't have to explore everything in BotW. You can just go for the finish line. Same for Andromeda...

Not so fast man! When I got stuck I put it on easy and then still got stuck on a boss I couldn't beat!  So don't count your chickens just yet!  ha ha. :)

Yeah, I've been thinking a little about going back and putting the last bullet into Andromeda. I'd like to finish FFXV too. Dammit, why am I always distracted by new and shiny things???

Were you stuck at the mountain with the Dragon where Andraste's urn is?

Posted on August 28, 2017 9:55 PM

No i got stuck on the last boss in the Dwarf area....

Posted on August 28, 2017 10:24 PM

Well I'm in the Dwarf area right now. Almost finishing it. Oh gawd.

you're doomed my friend. DOOMED!

Posted on August 28, 2017 11:28 PM

Haha. We shall see. I'm on my way to find the "lost" paragon.

Posted on August 30, 2017 1:37 AM

Did it.

Noooooooooooooooooooo

Posted on August 30, 2017 2:19 AM

MWUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!

What gets me is I can no longer seem to really dedicate myself to a fully-fledged 3D adventure game of any sort, constantly preferring to pick up and play something like a 2D side-scroller.

Posted on August 28, 2017 1:26 AM

Did you play Rime?  Or maybe I'm confusing you with Cary....?  Yeah, a lot of these 3D adventures are massive nowadays, which is cool, but time is money, man.

Posted on August 28, 2017 5:18 PM

Nope. Never came in the mail and don't have GameFly time left.

Posted on August 28, 2017 5:25 PM

those evil bastards.

Posted on August 28, 2017 5:40 PM

Oh, they sent me Yakuza Zero, which I plan on buying because I loved it so much. Had never play a Yakuza game before. So it's not GameFly being evil, they just sent me a different game on my list. I don't remember how I ranked which I wanted first, but I was happy with the service, I just have no time for it now.

Posted on August 28, 2017 5:50 PM

oh yeah?  never played one of those.

Posted on August 28, 2017 6:34 PM

Turns out, they are charming and addicting.

Posted on August 28, 2017 2:07 AM

I get bored with Minecraft all the time and then just restart the whole game, even after many hours in one world. It's just what I do.

Posted on August 28, 2017 3:20 AM

I've done that for a couple games, I can't remember which ones right now, but there's a couple I just replay the beginning of over and over.

Posted on August 28, 2017 2:51 AM

One neat thing about Breath of the Wild is that you can play it in short bursts.  But one bad thing about it (asides from that it's stupid hard sometimes), is that it's not really a Zelda game.  I still liked it a lot, though.  Especially cooking.  I liked how Link cooked and how he ate everyting in one bite!  I made him eat lots of stuff.  It's a wonder why he wasn't as big as a house by the time I got around to saving Zelda.

Posted on August 28, 2017 3:19 AM

sometimes I make him eat the dubious food. Hey - a half a heart is a half a heart!  :)

Posted on August 28, 2017 5:35 PM

Is this dubious food anything like, say, the Andale sidequest in Fallout 3?

Posted on August 28, 2017 5:37 PM

ha ha, I don't know, but when you cook the wrong ingredients you get "dubious food." ha ha
