Thinking Back on 2017(just thoughts)

I just wanted to think back and see if I can remember what games I played thorughout the year.  The idea is just to come up with a list now.  This should allow me a reference point for when I start thinking about my favorite game(s) of the year.

Final Fantasy XV
Dishonored 2
Inversus
Overcooked
Prey
Red Faction
NieR:  Automata
Inside
Oceanhorn
Gonner
Wonder Boy:  The Dragon's Trap
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
Butcher
Breath of the Wild
Destiny 2
Wolfenstein 2

This clearly is not a comprehensive list.  There were plenty of games that I spent a little bit of time with, but bounced early for a variety of reasons.  The Evil Within is the first games that comes to mind.  I played an hour or so, but I am done with it because The Evil WIthin 2 sounds like it is actually worth my time.

Now I am going to quick go over games that I picked up from 2017, but do not expect to play until 2018.
The Evil Within 2
Dishonored:  Death of the Outsider
Nex Machina
Horizon:  Zero Dawn
Resident Evil 7
Spectre of Torment

And finally I want to quick go over games that are still on my wishlist for 2017.
Super Mario Odyssey
Hellblade:  Senua's Sacrifice
What Remains of Edith Finch
SteamWorld Dig 2
Xenoblade Chronicles 2

I have added a lot of podcasts over the past year to my feed.  The Giant Bombcast was one of them.  Since I cleared out all my backlog, and in preparation for what to expect from their GOTY discussions I decided to listen to their 2016 discussions.  Their PLEASE STOP category was hilarious, because all the crap they complained about has been WORSE in 2017 than in 2016.

I really enjoyed What Remains of Edith Finch. It's really a visual novel more than a game, but I like those. The story was excellent, and the dark sense of humor was right up my alley.

Those are not my type of game, but with how short Edith Finch is, I am definitely curious about it.

Some of the games on your list that I played include Overcooked, Oceanhorn, Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap, and Breath of the Wild. All were very good games.

Overcooked is just WAY too stressful.  I actually hated playing it after a few levels.

Overcooked only really shines if you have someone to play with you.

My Horizon Zero Dawn is still sitting in my PS4 unfinished. Xbox keep distracting me. I'm on Watchdogs now.

I want to listen to Giant Bombcast but their show is like 3 hours long last I looked and I just don't have the time for it. Maybe if I go on a long trip somewhere I'll check it out.

The length is what scared me off of the Bombcast in the past, but I have been able to consume podcasts like crazy these days.

I haven't even downloaded Horizon yet.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who just can't get going on horizon, but I just deleted all my saves and plan to start over.

You played a hella lot of games more than I did! Damn. How was Butcher by the way? I've had that on my Steam Wishlist for a long time.

I'm going to get my brother Evil Within 2 for xmas.

But the funny part is that most of them were super-short indie games, and I spent a good 40 hours with Dishonored 2, 50-60 with Prey and nearly 100 with FF XV.

Butcher was fun, because it is essentially a 2D DOOM.  I did give up on the final world, but that is because I did not have the patience.
