Legendary Wings

Legendary Wings is another vertical-scrolling shmup by Capcom, this time all the way back from Ye Olde 1986. The gods have gifted a pair of legendary soldiers magical wings that they might save the world from an evil supercomputer that fell from space...or something? (Seriously, sometimes these Japanese designers must have been on something, right??) Anyway, it didn't take me long to decide that I wouldn't be putting in the time to play all the way through Legendary Wings. Two reasons:

1) Any game that makes you use a secondary attack to hit ground-based enemies is instantly on very shaky ground with me (I have never been a fan of Xevious).

2) Using a continue returns you to the start of the current level, and I certainly do not have time to get good at a game I do not enjoy playing.

I liked Legendary Wings ok but it was kind of hard, I think. Seemed unfair to me, whereas Xevious is hard but less unfair, in my opinion.

I wonder if the Japanese devs in the day were as drug-fueled as early Atari devs. I would watch that documentary.

Those mountain faces are eerie.
