Some Retro, Pinball FX3, Power Outage and Lots of Odin's Sphere

As thundersnow boomed outside, Mark and I gamed it up. I did some retro '81 games and challenged Rangergirl again in Pinball FX3. Then the power went out and I switched to 3DS and ran a dozen Miis through the gauntlet of Mii Plaza games. Then, when the power came back on, I got into Odin's Sphere Leifhrasir in a big way the rest of the day.

Retro: I played a bunch of '81 stuff from the Atari Flashback Classics Vol. 1 and 2 that I'll write about on future blogs. I discovered a new Atari 2600 game, Stellar Track, and can't wait to write about it. I also discovered control adjustments in the menus and was able to make some of these games play much, much better.

Pinball FX3: Specifically the Thor table; although, I also ran through the Avengers and X-men tables I have. I beat my own high score on one challenge on the Thor table but failed to top any of Ranger Girl's scores. I noticed Phantasystar77 joined in with a high score too. The more the merrier. Getting the right camera view on these tables is key for me. If I can see every flipper clearly, I can do better.

Power Outage: The snowstorm knocked power out for a while. That didn't stop Mark and I for a moment. Mark hooked up his battery powered DVD player and watched Pacific Rim, and I took out my 3DS and played Mii Plaza games (and also watched Pacific Rim). I have all the games now. I've begun to like Market Crashers and Ninja Launcher maybe better than any of the others. They all still go kind of slowly for small quick-play games. There are a surprising amount of load times and needlessly repeated dialog. I didn't even get to Etrian Odyessy V before the power came back on.

Odin's Sphere Leifhrasir: I played a lot of this today. I'm on easy difficulty figuring it would be like most games' normal but it is actually very easy, maybe too easy. I have a glut of matterials, food and potions that i don't need because I wreck house with my basic moves. I try and plant some seeds, raise a chicken, and harvest sheep just for fun and additional dining recipies. Yes, there is food crafting in the game.

I'm really liking the story of a valkyrie who's caught up in palace politics and manipulated like a piece of property. She manages to be a warrior and find love at the same time. Quite a feat. Aside from that are the amazing visuals. The bosses are cool as heck and fighting them is a joy. I think I might try and own this one because I know, once I've played it through on easy, I'll want to try it on harder difficulties. It is a bit of a button masher though. Not sure I can consistantly hit a 100 combo move and not suffer finger strain.

That's a day. Tomorrow some more.

Power outages suck, don't they?  But we should be thankful we live in a country where power outages are fixed rather quickly for the most part.

I think my favorite character in Odin Sphere is the Valkyrie lady.

When the power went out I realized suddenly that all my food I brought to Mark's place neede a microwave. Got kind of nervous for a moment there.

I love the character designs in Odin's Sphere. Really out there.

I think I topped Phantasystar77's high score last night. I'll have to check again. I have all my tables set to view 2, don't know if you've tried that one or not.

I ran through all of them and set mine to like 6 or something. The camera shifts a little upward when the ball is at the top of the table. I don't do that for all of them though. Some tables are just different.

I'm having a really tough time with the Destroyer because I have to hit targets on the left side and for some reason I'm not too good on that side. I'm working on it though.

Hot damn, the local news was talking about the storms that were (since I'm late in reading your post) hitting the East Coast and the pictures were crazy. Mii Plaza games were a lot of fun and I did enjoy them especially when I found new Mii's to add to the collection.

I'm into these Game & Watch stuff now. Much shorter games and great for quick plays here and there.

I'd like to see the Game & Watch stuff on mobile devices. Short burst of gaming is good on the go.
