June is the month I choose stuff from the years '90-'94. In games this means Sega Genesis and SNES, but I've got other media I'm experiencing too. Here's what's on my plate.
I've got E.O. Wilson and Bert Holldobler's Ants book (shown is the follow up book for laymen but I'm getting the full massive text book Ants as well), Sega Genesis Classics, various unplugged albums, and I'm watching Bill Nye The Science guy episodes on Netflix. Let me go into some more detail with notes below:
Games: I just picked up Sega Genesis Classics today. It comes with a poster, Golden Axe on one side and Streets of Rage on the other. Now that's the way to replace the old instruction manual. Maybe I'll frame it. I'm most excited for Landstalker but there's so much else.
I'm also setting up my SNES. I have all three Donkey Kong Country games. I want to try and play all of them. I don't think I've ever played DKC 3 before.
Books: I'm reluctantly putting down Paul Johnson's Modern Times at page 450 or so to read Ants by E.O. Wilson and Bert Holldobler. I was at a used book store and by chance saw their follow up book which attempted to present the very technical study in more readable form called, Journey to the Ants. I snatched that up and have already started it.
I'm also reading 4 part collected series, Marvels by Kurt Busiek and Alex Ross.
Music: A few nights ago I made an obscenely large list of music I want to listen to from '90-'94. There's rock stuff, pop, elctronic, humor and metal. I'll probably make two or three mix cds to listen to. I went to my used record store and found some unplugged stuff show above. Some of thiese are really good. Not show are the Eric Clapton and Neil Young unplugged I have digitally, which are excellent. That Jethro Tull, A Little Light Music, above is in the spirit of unplugged if not totally unplugged. It's nevertheless an excellent listen. I think Tull can get a bit bombastic fully electricfied and this showcases their folky roots, which is maybe their best feature. I highly recomend it even to non-Tull fans.
TV/Film: I have a list of TV shows so far, some are just old favorites and others are stuff I haven't seen yet. One is Bill Nye The Science Guy. I remember the style of the show was kind of weird, maybe psychedlic, and I liked it. Also, I'm always up for more science stuff. I noticed it's on youtube as well as Netflix. So I'll watch it on Netflix since I have a free month right now.
I've yet to go through movie releases. Only one I can think of right away is Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure (which is actually '89 but whatevs). This movie is just ok but I got into Primus through the soundtrack with their song Tommy the Cat.

Jethro Tull. The greatest metal band.
That's such a weird award to give them. There were some touches of metal on certain albums like Aqualung and Minstrel in the Gallery, but really, not a metal band. They started out a blues/folk rock band, went prog and then kind of got watered down to just folk tinged rock. I was into the prog stuff first but now my favorite is their early blues/folk rock stuff like Benefit and Stand Up. This unplugged harkens back to that.
I never really had much interest in DKC3. I think it's replacing Donkey and Diddy with Kiddy Kong. I'd rather that be Donkey and Dixie, it's so bizarre that only one Donkey Kong Country game on the SNES lets you play as the title character.
I remember playing DKC 2 and not getting into it. Then I forgot there was even a 3rd. I want to know what it is though.
May I suggest TMNT and Captain America cerca 1990?
I want to play all those Marvel/DC licensed games on the Genesis. Too bad those licences make it impossible for them to show up on a collection.
I hope you get to play lots of SNES games, as that is my most favorite console.
DKC3 was a special game to me because it was one of the first games I reviewed for the newspaper. Isn't that crazy that's how long ago it was that I started reviewing games semi-professionally?
I have just a handful of games for it right now. I'm thinking of letting it go after I play through the DKC games though, but I'm really reluctant to do that. The games are kind of expensive. I may rely on the Switch estore when I get the system for SNES stuff.
With the way NIntendo is handling classic games on the Switch (no Virtual Console), I'd keep your SNES games if I were you, if you can.
I'd like to, but I'll probably give it up. Just no room and also I don't need another reason to buy more games.
Heck yeah more music! That Nirvana album brings me back, and funny story about Alice in Chains, I've been told I'm related to the bassist (like in a distant cousin way). I really like Clapton's version of Layla on the Unplugged album. I bought the Tears in Heaven cassette single and that was the B side.
I loved Streets of Rage, and I think I played through the first three games including the Game Gear version, which I spent the most time with.
I keep hearing Clapton's Change the World song in supermarkets and other places. What a great song. It's accoustic and came out in '96, so I keep thinking it's from that unplugged album.
