I think I'm done with the Fortune Island expansion for Forza Horizon 4. I've gotten most of the achievements for the Island except the drift ones. I might, however, try the two time-trial achievements a few more times. These have you race the two biggest races, Leviathan and Kraken, with specific cars in under a certain time. I got very close the last time, but take a look at these things I saw at my local computer shop.
These aren't the Arcade 1UP cabinets I thought they were at first but Retro Arcade ones. You can download games to them like MAME cabinets. . . or maybe they can use MAME too? I'm not really sure, but they are multigame arcade cabinets. I especially like the one in the foreground. It was labeled a bartop cabinet, but you could easily put it on any table. The standup in the background is cool too, but it's so large. Price tag on the bartop one was $399, a little bit pricey in my opinion, but I like the design a lot. One day I'll build one of those things.
I mean, $400 is pricey for most of us, especially when you can get several of those games for cheap or free, but legit arcade cabinets are thousands of dollars, so ....
I guess when you compare it to that, it seems a little better. I just hope that controller panel is solid and lasts. A wobbly joystick just ruins gameplay like I found out at my local arcade a little while ago.
Yeah, I like the look of the tabletop one, but I don't even have a free tabletop to put it on, let alone $400
I wonder how heavy it is
Yea, the price is way too high, in my opinion. It's probably heavy too. Not going to plop that down on a foldup card table. Ha!
I don't know how much they are but I think I saw people modding the stand up arcade machines Walmart is selling and putting in Raspberry Pi's that were running all the classic consoles as well as MAME.
My local pinball gallery has video games too and a few multi-game systems with like hundreds of games on them, cabinets and tabletops. It seems the way to do with those old games. Probably could get all of them on my current laptop hard drive right now.
Yeah when I went to arcade auctions years ago, people were just starting to make MAME machines of varying quality and trying to sell them off at these auctions. One of my brothers got one of those Rasberry Pies for Christmas and said that most of the mini consoles and retro cabinets use one of those inside the machines now.
Yea, if I had time, I'd get one of those Pis and make a retro console out of it.
I helped my brother pick out games to put on his pie.
I've seen homemade arcade cabinets that are supposed to sit on bartops. They're sold on sites like Etsy. I'm tempted to get a cabinet with Donkey Kong graphics on it (it includes thousands of games, not just DK).
At this point, though, my Switch is my childhood dream arcade, with classics from Nintendo, Atari, Namco, Sega, Capcom, and SNK on it.
I want that SNK Collection that just came out. I've considered taking out the Switch we have at the library to play it. I discovered I can do that as an employee a few days ago.
The game I really wanted the SNK collection for is Vanguard, which was a pre-NES favorite on the 2600 and 8-bit Ataris. I also play Athena, but that game is a Soulsbourne level of punishing even at easy difficulty. Ikari Warriors and P.O.W. are the other ones I play on that collection. It has both the arcade and NES versions where available.
I've played Scramble, a very similar game to Vanguard.
I have Scramble on PS1, and I played the Atari 8-bit version of Super Cobra. There was a really good knockoff of Scramble on the TRS-80 called Penetrator.
Holy moly that's some retro stuff there. Seems like a good one too.
Arcade cabinets are certainly awesome, but space and price are an issue for me.
Yea, I'd rather try and build one myself, or just use a laptop instead which would be easier and way cheaper.
