Since I’m on Day 2 of stalling for a theme for my #BaD2020 let’s ramble on about what game I played on the flight home from San Francisco. Remember the past couple of weeks where I bought the IPega Red Knight and combined it with my old music player? Well I didn’t play that, but instead I played a Tecmo Bowl style game on my iPad called Retro Bowl.

This is a free to play game but if you spend a whooping .99 cents you can play as many games as you want. A buck for a Tecmo Bowl-ish game? I gave it a spin and yeah I bought it while sitting in the hotel room debating on if I should partake in the breakfast being served at the in house restaurant (remember the sub par breakfast I talked about yesterday? That’s the one).

So the game is basically just franchise mode. It starts with asking you your favorite team and then surprise it dumps you with the worst team in your favorite team’s division one game before the season ends. To pass the ball you drag your finger back and then aim it at where you want to throw it and then lift your finger. To run the ball you tap on the RB in the blue circle to hike it. To juke you swipe up and down, and to dive you swipe forward. That’s all you do, plays are picked for you, and you don’t control the defense.

Doesn’t this give you NES flashbacks?

Between games you earn coins. Coins can be used to upgrade your stadium, training facility, and rehab facility. Saving coins also helps in signing better coaches, and players. You also have a salary cap for 8 players you have to worry about but it seems easy because the cap gets increased each season, and after every game you have a choice win or lose between two randomly generated options on the screen. It’s usually like blame/praise the coach/players, take the blame, praise the fans. It will tell you the consequences of choosing the options usually affecting player/team morale, or losing a coin. I always just eat the loss of a coin instead of ruining team morale. Before the next game you also have something similar and it is usually like meet with owner vs meet with coaches/media. This one I always try and get the coin.

Also between games your players can improve and then you can allocate where you want the improvement to go. This is when you want to get the most from your players and then if you can upgrade to a better player.

Games are really short, usually a couple of minutes and then it’s off to the next one. You can probably finish a season in maybe a half hour. At the end of the season you can re-sign players or staff, find a new job, and then prepare for the 3 round draft

The draft is easy, there is a screen of a bunch of players, their position and star rating and you just click it. If you only have one pick in that round it goes to the next round the choices become smaller. Three rounds and then you’re off to the next season.

After three seasons with the Redskins (oh there’s no official team names or players) I took a 1 win team to back to back NFC East Division Titles, and to the second round of the playoffs and headed to Dallas

This team is bad. So far I started out 0-5, traded my QB for a 1^st round pick, I have no defense, I signed two guys with bad attitudes for filler and I’m just playing out the season. The Cowboys (again no official team names) somehow have a high 70% morale rating.
