Games Beaten
-Metroid Dread (Switch)
Dread deviates from Super Metroid and I understand why some dislike it for what that entails. This is a more combat-focused Metroid but it controls SO WELL. The melee counter from Samus Returns is still here but it's rarely forced on the player and the timing windows are generous. The world is well-designed so that backtracking for power ups feels natural. Honestly, it's such a colossal improvement over Samus Returns, it's hard to believe it's the same developer. I really enjoyed it.
Games Bought
November was a light month. My wife found a cheap copy of Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games (Wii) at a thrift store and my kids got a kick out of playing that a few times. Other than that I got my copy of Blaster Master Zero 3 (Switch). I'm sure next month will be a heavier one!
Games Being Played
-Into the Breach (Switch)
I downloaded this strategy game a few years ago and fell off of it before too long but I'm giving it another go. There are four islands for you to work through but you can do the final mission any time after completing a second island (the final mission scales in difficulty). I finished a two-island run but lost on literally the last turn of a three-island run. It was crushing
-New Pokémon Snap (Switch)
Still slowly going through this game. It's relaxing.
-Destiny 2 (PS4)
I'm down to the really difficult or time consuming seasonal challenges now.
-Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate (Switch)
In HR6, prepping for the first G rank.
Believe it or not, Metroid Dread was nominated for Game of the Year for the Game Awards! I doubt it will win, but I'm so glad that people love the game, I hope it's been selling well. It really is a fantastic 2D Metroid game.
I did hear about that nomination! Yeah, I doubt it will win but the recognition is good. I haven't heard any sales data for Dread yet but considering the Switch's track record so far, I assume Dread will become the best selling Metroid game without too much trouble.
I just put Into the Breach on a list of games I want to play. Not sure I should get a Switch just to play that though. I do want a Switch. Just don't have the time for it right now.
On the one hand I can't believe you don't have a Switch. On the other I applaud you for knowing your limits.
I finally got one! I haven't had time to even open the box yet, but soon.
Ooh, that's exciting! Original, Lite, or OLED?
OLED!!! I'm so glad I got that version too. I love the OLED screen.
I got to the last boss in Metroid Dread but I can't beat him.
Pokemon Snap will probably get high marks in my GOTY blog.
I spent a solid hour fighting that guy again and again before beating him. So hard! But then I went back the next day to show the fight to my kids (my two oldest had started playing Dread but it was too difficult for them) and I beat it that time on my first try. It really was just a case of learning the patterns.
