Last year of the 80s and nearly the end of October. I'll be remembering the 90s in November, but this is '89 and what I recall most fondly (or wish to play now in some cases).
Arcade
Golden Axe - Probably the last arcade game I played in the arcades. It's always fun to revisit on the Genesis.
Other favs were: Final Fight, Strider and TMNT.
PC
Curse of the Azure Bonds - If I had continued playing on my Mac Plus, I'd have wanted to play this, one of the ADnD Gold Box games.
Also, SimCity.
Home Console
Crossbow (Atari 7800) - I always liked the 1983 arcade game that featured a crossbow controller. I'd love to play this 7800 port if I could ever find it. It's only other port is for 2600.
Others I'd have played back then: Dark Chambers (2600), Off the Wall (2600), Dragon Warrior (NES), Ys I (SMS), Revenge of Shinobi (Genesis), Alleyway (GB), Dungeon Explorer (TG16).
Board/Card
None of interest other than a Tetris board game. Huh?
TV/Film
Adventures of Baron Munchausen (West German release in '88 but '89 elsewhere) - Since I was a Monty Python fan, I was also a Terry Gilliam fan who directed this. It's wildly zany and a lot of fun for me and my best friend at the time.
Bonus
Soundtracks
So many good soundtracks in the 80s, but what always comes to mind first is James Horner's Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan ('82).
Others I'd put in a top ten list would be: Excalibur ('81), Star Wars: Empire Strikes Back ('80), Heavy Metal ('81), Catherine Wheel ('81), Birdy ('85), Repo Man ('84), Batman ('89), Flash Gordon ('80).
I've always really liked Final Fight. I think it holds up well, even today.
I never liked the arcade Crossbow game because the screams of the people you're trying to protect always creeped me out.
