Just a quick one today, I think. I had a much better day than yesterday. Did some errands, went for two walks, and got some stuff done around the house I needed to do. I still didn’t cook my meal prep stuff, but that’s at the top of the list for tomorrow. I wish I had more of a taste for fruit and veggies. I can do salads, but snacking on fruit or eating lots of vegetables with meals has never been easy for me, and that’s so important for being healthy and losing weight.
I prefer to get my fruit and veg by juicing. I was inspired by the documentary Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead. I actually did do a juice fast for about 16 days a few years ago, and it was the best I’ve ever felt. I had so much energy that I was waking up before my alarm would go off and getting right out of bed. I’m not a morning person at ALL; when I was a kid it was a war with my mom every morning to get me ready for school. Even now, I’ll sleep as long as I can before I have to get ready. The juicing was awesome, but I didn’t take care of the juicer and I had to get rid of it. My mother and I did a poor job of house cleaning when we lived together. I blame my anal-retentive father who was always angry about the state of things. Once he left, we let things slide, big time.
Anyway, I’d like to get a new juicer. I have a Nutribullet now, and that’s great for quick bursts of greens, but a juice extractor allows you to put a ton of stuff into one juice. The downside is that you lose the fiber, but I’d just like to use it as a way of getting extra greens into my diet. I can shotgun a juice before I register the taste, which is a win for me.
I’m writing another review tonight. Hope you got to read my reviews for Virginia and Hitman, and Firewatch comes out tomorrow. I realize that, besides Hitman (which released on disc recently), these aren’t new releases, but I’m trying to get back on the writing wagon. I know I’ll be reviewing Horizon: Zero Dawn, because it’s coming out on the day before my birthday, so that will be my gift to me.
Not sure what the weekend holds. My girlfriend is busy with school, so she may not be staying the weekend with me as she normally does. I’d like us to at least go see The Great Wall, because that movie looks awesome, and brings back memories of Hero and House of Flying Daggers. Probably more Mass Effect, question mark? I’m not sure. I’ll try to have something more interesting to write about tomorrow.
Good going Julian. I'm still treadmilling for an hour 4 days a week and have cut my portions down at meal times. Also limiting my beer intake to weekends. Believe it or not that's huge progress for me. :)
Yeah, that sounds great! I am glad that I don't drink, because that could have made me way bigger than I am for sure. But I used to consume over 2000 calories in soda alone each day, which is why I've been able to keep my weight around 250-260 without doing anything else. I'm more concerned about really changing my overall diet to be healthier on a permanent basis.
Congrats on the health! I love fruit, but a doctor once earned me away from too many oranges, which along w Fuji apples are my favorite. I usually turn to broccoli and salad for greens.
I don't juice, but I'd like a blender for protein shakes. That clumpy mess is nasty and physically hard to swallow.
I thought of Hero as well when watching The Great Wall trailer. Love that film. Its cinematography is poetic.
Looking forward to your reviews. I'll be buying Zero Dawn as long as reviews look good and asking for ME Andromeda for my bday. Woo games releasing close to bdays!
Does this site have a review for The Last Guardian? I could write one. Then again ... I'd have to think of something new to say about it.
I believe Casey was on the Last Guardian review, but I'm not sure where he's at on that.
Have you watched That Sugar Film? It is really good if you haven't checked it out. The amounts of sugar in our food that is supposed to be healthy is insane. It will keep you unhealthy just so they can make more money.
I haven't, but I should. I know that, when I did my juice fast, I broke myself of my sugar addiction for quite a while. I almost enjoyed eating fruit and veggies after that! But it just took one trip to Vegas to slip back into my old habits.
Society wants us to fail, lol. It's so unfair. I eat yogurt everyday because I assumed it was healthy. Then I saw how much sugar was in what I was eating and I was floored! I had to switch brands.
Sugar is tricky because they can lable it "fat free". It doesn't become harmful to us until the body processes it. That's how they can get away with it all.
I got a Ninja blender for Xmas a year or two ago and went through a smoothy crazy for a while. That was fun. I should get back on that.
I've cut back on so many things the last year or two. I was talking ice cream with a co-worker today and I realized I hadn't touched the stuff in years. I'm kind of scared of ice cream now. Don't think I'll try any.
I admire your willpower. Sometimes, I'm sitting with something terrible in my hands, and I almost can't understand how I got there. Like, I knew it was bad, and I knew I shouldn't have it, but all of a sudden there I am.
I'm, like, always coming up with self talk to try and alter my habits. I'm calling a lot of things "poison" right now just to trying to keep myself away. I'm not delusional, I don't believe these things are poison, but it's like attaching bad associations to things I should avoid. Talking about Ben and Jerry's, though, made my mouth water.
