Games Beaten

-Picross S (Switch)

Picross S is a little barebones but really solid. The interface is intuitive and there are plenty of puzzles—150!—but the pictures themselves are generally pretty mundane. Not a dealbreaker but I wish they had more fun with it. There are also 150 Mega Picross puzzles...but they are the same pictures as the regular puzzles. After doing a couple, I found I had no motivation to continue those. I might come back and do some more periodically. But still, it's a solid Picross package.

Games Bought

July was...gosh, I'm having a hard time remembering July. It was so long ago! But let's see...I bought Into the Breach (Switch), which is a really cool not-quite-rogue-like strategy game (multiple timelines!). My wife found Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle (Switch) for pretty cheap, which I'm excited about playing. On the NOT SWITCH front I got Fate/EXTELLA: The Umbral Star (Vita...though I do think it has been ported to the Switch also) and Wolfenstein: Youngblood (PS4; I definitely wouldn't play the Switch port of that). PS+ netted me Detroit: Become Human (PS4), which my wife and I played through on a rental when it came out (cool game) and Horizon Chase Turbo (PS4), which looks like a neat arcadey racing game.

Now Playing

-Yakuza Kiwami 2 (PS4)

I got back into this game in a big way and have made a lot of story progress, but the side stories remain an ever delightful distraction.

-Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night (Switch)

I really like this game. It scratches that Iga Castlevania itch perfectly (for obvious reasons), but I've had trouble fitting it into my routine—it doesn't help that I have to all but fight my kids for use of the Switch—and so I've still uncovered less than 30% of the map. Once I finish Kiwami 2 I'm gonna really focus on this one.

-Into the Breach (Switch)

This is such a cool little strategy game about your three mechs vs evil bug monsters. If you lose you pull one of your pilots into a new timeline and try again. Great for little play chunks or long sessions.

-Earth Defense Force 2025 (PS3)

I got the last weapon I needed for my Ranger but my armor is making the last few missions really tough. Been grinding some. Hopefully be able to finish it soon.

-Destiny 2 (PS4)

Just a month and a half left till the new big expansion drops. Bungie has certainly kept us busy.

I'm on to Judgment right now, but I really want to go back and finish all the side STORIES (not content, like I've mistakenly said in the past) in Kiwami 2, because they're SO good. I still feel Kiwami was lacking in the quality of substories compared to other games in the series, but that's to be expected when I play the perfected fifth entry (0) and then play a remake of the first attempt (Kiwami).

Still have not finished Detroit, but I want to.

Actually, thanks for the reminder to download whatever August's PS+ games are.

That thing in Kiwami 2 that puts the sidestories on the map is such a godsend. More than once (last night, for instance) I've started playing with every intention of continuing the main story...but I end up just running from one substory on the map to the next lol.

I loved it in Kiwami 2, but I'm noticing it's making me do the same thing you described while I play Judgment and I'm not sure I like it as much now. I like to have the substories jump out at me sometimes more organically, y'know? Maybe there's a way to shut it off.

Don't get me wrong, when I was playing Kiwami 2, I was 100% where you are now in terms of loving those markers.

Hm, sounds like someone needs to get a Switch Lite for the kiddos.... ; )

Yes...except they like to play on the tv as well, especially multiplayer games. The Swite Lite's inability to switch is really a sticking point with me Undecided

What's the deal with Destiny 2 becoming free-to-play? I heard that somewhere but on Xbox they ask you for a code to get it.

I...don't know? There has never been a subscription and since we buy all the expansions and passes as soon as they come out, I never had to deal with anything like that. Perhaps they're throwing in some early expansion content into the base game for free? Dunno. But the expansion coming in October looks really cool.

I'm interested in playing it sometime. I played the main missions for Destiny 1.

I've been meaning to grab Into the Breach on Switch for a while. Just haven't had the time. Looks really fun.
