The Two-Sentence Horror Story

A while ago my wife introduced me to the two-sentence horror story, which is just what it sounds like. A horror story in two sentences. Now you might think that it would be difficult to be scary in just two sentences, and you’d be right. Many of these stories aren’t that great. Some manage to get by on shock value, but the really good ones tap into our human fear of the unknown and let the imagination run with the possibilities. You don’t want to blow through these stories and keep going because you’ll lose the effect. Really put yourself into the story then stop after reading and let it sink in. Here’s my favorite:

I begin tucking him into bed and he tells me, “Daddy check for monsters under my bed.” I look underneath for his amusement and see him, another him, under the bed, staring back at me quivering and whispering, “Daddy there’s somebody on my bed.”

Hopefully you think that’s as cool as I do. What would you do if you were that dad? How would the next thirty seconds play out?

Anyone else heard of these? There are a bunch of them floating around the internet, so if you’ve come across another good one or if you’d like to make your own, share them in the comments!

He has twins.

That's a very rational explanation...that takes all the fun out of it lol

Sorry, my bad, I retract my statement.lol.

whoah, that is pretty fucked up.  Doppelgangers are scary.

And if they're both actually there it would lead to the age old question: Who is lying?

The last man alive in the world sat alone in a room. There was a knock on the door.

That one seems more intriguing than scary to me. There was another one I saw that went something like this:

I live alone, so when they delivered the mannequins all wrapped up in bubble wrap, I put them in the extra bedroom. From the main room I begin to hear popping.

I immediately thought the kid on the bed was a demon in disguise. What could happen next is the father looks back up and there's no kid there or as he's talking to his kid under the bed he gets his head spiked to the floor by the demon and the kid screams. Take your pick: psychological tension or bloody gore.

There are any number of ways it can go. That's what's so cool about it Smile

Yea that would make a good chapter in The Walking Dead lol!!

Well...there are no zombies lol. I'll just have to take your word for it since I've never seen or read it.

I just saw almost the same thing in a movie trailer. A kid was looking at himself in the mirror then walked away and his reflection was still there. Oooo!

I always thought malevolent reflections were pretty scary.

Y'know what? That is creepy. The possibility of a parallel shadow world with scarier versions of ourselves has always haunted me somewhat.

Or maybe our shadow shelves are goofier than we are...nah Tongue Out

I find it hard to believe I could be any goofier than I already am.

Never heard of this. Was this something out of Twitter or something? Let me take a stab at it.

"I'd talk to myself in the dark because it was fun thinking that something in that darkness was listening, so one day I asked it how it was doing this fine evening"

"But this particular night I asked the darkness how it was this fine evening and it answered back that it was just fine thank you, I stopped talking to the darkness ever since.

...

yeah that was crap.

My wife came across it on Tumblr, though I think it was big on reddit too. And your wording isn't so good but I love the idea. Let me give it a try.

"I often talked aloud to my dark room after going to bed because it was fun thinking that something in that darkness could hear me, and so one night I asked the darkness how it was doing. A dry rasping voice answered me, saying it was hungry, so very hungry, and I haven't turned off the light in my room since."

I'm still trying to get use to Tumblr along with reddit so I'm not shocked to see it came from there.

Yes, your wording is much, much better. Good job improving it.
