So not having a Playstation system before a PSP, this was my first forray into the MGS series. I kept playing this waiting to see why this series is so popular and well, yeah, that's pretty much my experience with it. The entire game was so forgettable and nothing special.

The controls I actually preferred to Peace Walker as there was no face button replacing the right stick crap you see with so many PSP games. It actually feels like it was designed for a PSP rather than just wishing it was a PS2 game. And that's pretty much where I run out of good things to say.

People will say a story's forgettable as a detriment, but other than that it starts in a prison, I can't remember one thing about the story. The gameplay meanwhile felt mostly like doing the same thing. There was none of the crazy bosses, weird plots, and twists on what we expect games to do that make MGS what it is.

It really shows just how important Kojima is to these games, without him, it's just another stealth game that's good for a PSP stealth fix, but not if you want something equivalent to what's found on PC or consoles. Something which was a little too common for PSP games to me. It actually hurt my opinion of the series for a long time because I thought with all the high scores it received it was what to expect. Fortunately, I couldn't be more wrong.

So aside from the high scores thing, your Portable Ops experience was my Shyamalama ding dong's Last Airbender experience. Seriously, I thought the people bitching about that movie just had nostalgia goggles and couldn't accept that in their adult life the story just wasn't that good ... boy am I glad I was wrong.

Never did play on a PSP, but they did look cool.

I think I have this game.  I hadn't played it yet though.  I guess I'm not missing much.

Never played this or owned a PSP, but I did read similar feelings towards this game a while ago, especially lamenting the lack of involvement from Kojima.

I think I played like an hour of this on rental one time. In stealth games, I always get caught. Then I stand up and say, "aw fudge it!" and start opening fire until I get gunned down. That doesn't take long. Then I quit.

I played a little bit of it and I didn't like it very much either. I played the demo of Peace Walker and it didn't grab me. I ended up watching all the cut-scenes of Peace Walker on Youtube and I'm glad I didn't play it. The story in that game is either incredibly cliche or incredibly ridiculous. I was just mad when I finished watching it!

and thus I'm glad I didn't bother with this game. Sounds like I dodged a bullet there.
