Hello Pixlbit!

I’ve had a pretty nice haul of games already in this summer’s still young Steam Sale and from what I see on my friends list, others have too.

So far I’ve picked up the following:

Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War GOTY

 Warhammer 40K

I was a massive Warhammer fan growing up so am really excited at the prospect of playing a proper 40K RTS. I played most the way through Space Marine a few years back but for this franchise, the RTS genre is where it’s at.

Democracy 3

 Democracy 3

I hadn’t heard anything about this game prior to it being on sale but the premise sounds very interesting. I’m having a lot of fun at the moment with Tropico 4 and trying to appease the different political parties so am looking forward to playing a game where this is the only real focus.

Final Fantasy VII

 FFVII The Gang

This is one of those sale purchases I’m not sure I’ll ever play but for less than $5, how could I resist? It’s been years since I’ve last played it so maybe someday.

Final Fantasy VIII

 FFVIII

I’m more likely to play this than VII as I remember less of it from my original playthroughs. Believe it or not, this is up there for me as one of my favourite PS One games.

That’s all for the moment though today’s another day. The big games I have on my wishlist are Crusader Kings II, Europa Universalis IV & Broken Age. If any drop below $10, they’re mine.

How’s everyone else faring?

I like VIII too.  Haters be damned.

I hear that. Never fully understood the obvious hatred towards it. I know some people tend to dislike 7 & 8 for being non-fantasy themed but they're both damn good games IMO

Dude every person I have ever spoke to in my area loves FF7 and you be damned to like 8 or 9. My fave is 9 overall, i loved the characters and story in it.

Haha I hear that. I just don't get the hatred. They're different, not bad. I understand people who say they just don't like them obviously but saying they're actual bad games is incorrect IMO

I did not like VIII at all. It ranks just above XIII for me. I  had a physical copy of FF VII for PC complete with cardboard sleeve and manual. Picked it up at a yard sale for 2 bucks and sold it recently for $50.

I didn't buy anything from the Steam sale but my son picked up Battle Block Theater, All the Far Cry Games, Pyschonauts and Borderlands 2 GotY edition.

We'll have to agree to disagree on VIII Smile Nice turnover on the physical copy of VII though.

And I've seen quite a few people pick up Battle Block Theater. I've never heard of it myself

Me neither. Christien seems to be having fun playing it. He's took my 360 controller.

I know some people like VIII. I gave it a try more than once. I think I made it for a couple of hours once. LOL

Democracy 3 seems interesting, is it a sim game where you play POTUS?

Posted on June 24, 2014 1:03 AM

I haven't played it yet but i'll be sure to report back. You do control the US President it seems anyway

I was going to pick up FFVII from the sale, but I read a review of the game that states Square installs tracking cookies on your pc through the game and sales your info to 3rd party companies.  Totally changed my mind on buying it.

Ugh, well that sucks. I'll let you know if I notice anything. Big brother man. Fucking big brother...

Actually, even if I had to create a Square account to play the game, I haven't received any of that. That said, I had only played the game once.

That Warhammer RTS looks cool. I miss playing Warcraft II and my PC won't play it anymore.

Yeah actually I've slight concerns myself on how well Dawn of War will run on my PC. Tropico 4 runs pretty well so hopefully it'll be grand. I've never played any of the Warcraft games (or Starcraft for that matter) and feel like i've missed the boat on those. Shame

I just loved Warcraft I and II. Why Blizzard hasn't repackaged them for Steam or tablets is a mystery to me. I guess they're too busy with World of Warcraft still, but there's lots of other strategy games I want to try like Age of Empires on PC and Ace Patrol for tablets.

Nice pick ups. I went with Rogue Legacy, Battleblock Theater, and Gone Home. Excited to play two of these.

I was so tempted for Gone Home. Kinda regret not picking it up actually. Maybe some day.

That Democracy game sounds really interesting.  Id like to see what you think of it after you sink a few hours into it.  That photo drew me right in. Pitchfork!

Yeah i'll definitely post my impressions after I get it started. Alot of the gameplay screenshots look like graphically improved excel spreadsheets for the most part but that doesn't necessarily throw me off. I'm looking forward to diving in once I kick my current Tropico habit

Didn't really like VIII much as the others but at least there's some appeal to it. Really Disliked XIII-1. Only played for 3 hours and quit after the first crystarium expasion.

Posted on June 25, 2014 1:13 PM

I though XIII was ok but it didn't grab me. I played probably around 15 hours, got stuck and promptly gave up. XIII-2 is an improvement however but still doesn't hook me completely. I'm not sure I'll bother getting Lightning Returns.

As far as your comment about FF VIII.  I know that it doesn't matter what anybody else thinks.  Sometimes games hit us at just the right time.  They may not be as beloved or as good as others, but they came along at just the right time in ones life and left an impression.

Good point here actually. I have fond memories of listening to the Daredevil soundtrack of all things and playing VIII. Good times.

mmmmmm. tifa.....

I wish I could get FFVII on PSN for $5. got the rest of them for that price except for FF VI, VII and VIII.

I wonder why.......

Posted on July 5, 2014 2:39 PM

My guess is it's selling the most of the bunch so they don't feel the need to price drop.

Posted on July 3, 2014 7:05 PM

Never played FF VII, I have got to get to it eventually.

Posted on July 5, 2014 2:40 PM

Yeah it's one of those games everyone should at least try to see what they think. It blew my mind the first time I played it but I wonder if the same magic would be felt today.
