Today, Sega officially announced Shinobi for the 3DS, in development at Griptonite Games. The game's existence was originally leaked in a resume posted on LinkedIn and again later on the cover of Nintendo Power. According to the press release, players will once again be able to experience the classic side-scrolling gameplay this September.
The game will feature StreetPass functionality and a "large assortment of achievements and challenges to unlock." The game will tell the story of Jiro Musashi, leader of the Oboro clan and father of the original games' protagonist Joe Musashi. Jiro will need to master combos that switch between melee, ranged and acrobatic attacks. He also has access to "ninja magic," giving him an advantage over enemies.
No other details about the game are known at this time, but players can likely expect more information in a couple short weeks at E3 2011.
