At tonight's VGA awards, it was revealed that Metal Gear Solid Rising will now be known by a different name - Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. In addition to the name change, development was also handed to a different studio. Taking the helm is Platinum Games, known for their over the top style as demonstrated in Bayonetta, Vanquish, and Madworld.

Check out the trailer below for a sample of what's to come.

I really enjoyed Mad World and Bayonetta, so this game is definitely going to be on my watch list.

Revengeance, seriously? Awful name.

Not as bad as Ridge Racer Unbounded. Silly Japanese. But getting Platinum involved is great news. They actually know how to ship games, which the first team didn't seem to be able to do.

With Shanton on the name. Its stupid. I didn't overly mind the previous title, but eh, what can you do?

Yet even with Platinum Games at the helm (honestly, I trust them more then Kojima Productions), Rising is of little interest with me. The MGS canon is becoming way too bloated for its own damn good; THE SERIES IS OVER KOJIMA WHY ARE YOU MAKING MORE SEQUALS UGH!!

Spin-offs are a-ok (Ac!d 2, Metal Gear: Ghost Babel) and they can make them non-canon. Why this game has this be canon is beyond me. Also Cyborg Raiden is the worst character ever, way to shit on brilliant character development Kojima. >:(

I'm sorry, but we can't talk about the MGS canon with any amount of seriousness. It's always been bloated, this makes it no worse.

All I have to say is stupid name, but great looking game. Couldn't be more excited for Platinum to take this over. Though I do wish I could've seen the original version of the game behind closed doors 2 years ago at E3 2010. They only showcased it to a few outlets and only the biggest in the industry. Oh well.

I'm taking the 'wait and see' approach with this game. The original Metal Gear Solid for the PSOne was the highlight of the franchise for me and though this game looks very different and I'm a fan of Platinum Games I haven't seen enough at this point to convince me that this is something to be excited for.

I've never been able to get into the series. However, aside from playing the VERY beginning of MGS2 on the PS2, I've never played one. So I don't know if the story is horribly convoluted. Good thing that HD collection just came out. At least this trailer is flashy...

Hideous name, fantastic studio. Now I'm interested.

Still haven't played the original MGS...gonna play them in the order of storyline as opposed to release.
