Namco Bandai has announced that it is working in conjunction with Paramount Pictures to develop a video game based on the upcoming Star Trek movie for a 2013 release. The title will be released for "all major home consoles and PC."
The move is set to be released on May 17, 2013 and the video game is expected to be released before that, in the first quarter of 2013. The title is being developed by Digital Extremes, who recently released The Darkness II and the game's original story is being written by Marianne Krawczyk (God of War) along with Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, writers and producers of the film.
PARAMOUNT PICTURES AND NAMCO BANDAI TEAM UP FORLive Long and Friggin' Prosper! That is all. I'm so excited for this ^_^
I trust Digital Extremes, and I also like Marianne Krawczyk and her God of War work. It's a movie-tie in game and by all means should suck a fat one, but I'm hoping it doesn't. I expect it to more or less take inspiration from Mass Effect, except from the combat system. I really want there to be "action" in the sense of spectacle and grandure like there is in the reboot Star Trek, but I don't expect it to be a shooter. I hope it's not. I hope that, like Star Trek itself, this game is more about characters, dialogue, exploration, discovery, drama, and intellectual exercise. That's a tall order though and I'm likely thinking too wishfully.
That ship is a real beauty. Still my favorite version.
