Those angered by the endings of Mass Effect 3 may finally get the closure they desire. Bioware has announced that this summer, the Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut DLC will be released to give fans “clarity to the ending of Mass Effect 3 and insight on how your personal journey concludes.”
"Since launch, we have had time to listen to the feedback from our most passionate fans and we are responding,” says Dr. Ray Muzyka, co-founder of Bioware. “We think we have struck a good balance in delivering the answers players are looking for while maintaining the team's artistic vision for the end of this story arc in the Mass Effect universe.”
Executive Producer Casey Hudson added, “we have re-prioritized our post-launch development efforts to provide the fans who want more closure with even more context and clarity to the ending of the game, in a way that will feel more personalized for each player.”
Fans will be pleased to know that this DLC will in fact be free, but only until April 12, 2014. Have any opinions on Bioware's choice? Tell us about it in the comments section below.
BioWare Announces Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut
Just with the ending itself, Im kind of split. Im glad that they are going to try and add some closure to the ending, but I fear that its a risky move. All the expectations I now have from speculation and things like the "indoctranation" (forgive spelling) theory now are kind of pointless. Im curious to see how they explain the various plot points at the end, but I feel that there will still be users that are unsatisfied. On top of that, I feel like they are sacrificing/delaying other DLC plans just to make this happen.
That said, Im always game for more Mass Effect!
yeah well this is crazy because apparently the whole game was an indoctranation to sheperd so what is this dlc gonna include, are they going to put it on disk or xbox-live and will they have a youtube presentation of it?
And self entitlement wins
Is that a CUNT I see? :D
I've been a huge fan since the series began, but I haven't played 3 yet and the more I hear about it the less I care to even play it. Ever since it came out I can't remember any of the bloggers, across any of the gaming communities I'm a part of, telling me how amazing it was and what they love about it. Under their breath people usually give a disclaimer like, "i loved 95% of it, BUT I'm so goddman pissed the ending sucked so bad, Bioware failz, EA has their greasy hands in everything, greed runs the world blah blah, online passes, day one DLC, the sky is falling, and I'm fuckin mad Casey Hudson, SO MAD!"
I've heard so much about the game, heard a couple spoilers here and there, and I'm so saturated with ME3 news and drama still that I'm already sick of the game and I haven't played it lol. This game is falling further down my list of priorities that I'm not sure if I'll even play it this year. I'm much more excited about Halo 4, Far Cry 3, Bioshock Infinite, and there's plenty of games from last year I still need to get. I'm still waiting for some kind of Skyrim GOTY edition so I can finally play that game for the first time.
I know that the game has been in the media a lot for many reasons, both negative and positive. While I understand why you would consider not playing the game because of all of the press, I really hope you do. Even with the ending, the game is fantastic and I can't recommend it more.
I would argue that both Jon and I defend it without any talking of only limiting to 95%. The ending was emotional and abrupt but you can't say it wasn't impactful. Someone said to treat ME3 in the entirety as a final chapter and I think that is the right call.
Definitely agree with you there.
@Stanton and Jon
My failure was when I said none of the bloggers or journalists stood up for the game or gave their full thoughts on the game. You guys over here have been the best because there's no firestorm and sillyness going on over here. Pixlbit is an oasis where cooler heads, fairness, and maturity previal. Over on 1UP this "debacle" (or so it was labeled one time) is all you hear about every damn week. My Daries's review over here was the most useful and fair review I think I saw for the game, and on top of that the discussions everybody has participated in have been intelligent and well rounded. Over here Mass Effect 3 has thankfully been talked about sparingly and not obsessed over. I'm pissed because, not only have I not played the game yet and I want to, but on top of that whenever the game is brought up so many people over a 1UP start arguing. People take a shit on it, only focus on the last 10 or so minutes, and people never talk about what they liked about the game.
In all the blogs over there nobody has ever mentioned what they thought about the combat, the cover system, the level designs, the skill trees, the characters, what their favorite mission was, what choices they thought were compelling, or why this game was really fun in general. Instead it's all about how evil EA is, how screwed up the industry is, and everybody starts gushing about all the things they hate in life lol. It just brings out the worst of people and all the Bioware haters come out of the woodworks and take shots at the situation, fans of the series argue with each other, etc.
It's such a waste, none of those people talk about the whole game and this has been going on for weeks. I'm tapped out on ME3 coverage and I just want to wait till I can play it and see for myself. Now I'm pissed because I feel like the game is in this negative context and it shouldn't be. Once I buy it, I shouldn't have to go into the game with all kinds of baggage attatched to it, caused by some of the journalists and bloggers out there. I love these games and people need to stop telling me ME3 is a piece of shit, the sky is falling, gaming is such peril, and they hate everything. Bullshit! I call shenanigans on all those folks! I'm the one who's mad now lol.
I appreciate your sentiments on the review. I think you will honestly be fine once you start playing the game. The immersion is so solid that you won't be thinking about any kind of possible endings or anything else negative but just enjoying the experience.
I love the game. I even like the ending to a point. What I don't like is the tie in with multi-player. Some of us loyal Bio-ware fans who have played all three games and don't have and can't get a high speed internet connection feel cheeted that the outcome is determined by something out of our control. Bio-ware or I should say EA if they really cared about the fans should give them an option. If you like muilti-player and can utilize it then have it affect the outcome. IF you don't and can't have it not affect the out come.
EA/ Bioware, if you truly care about all of your fans give them the choice!
