Games of the Decade: Expansion Pass #20/Blog a Day #11
Hurry, hurry, hurry! Step right up for the latest theme park attraction! It’s a theme park based around Mr. Driller, and it’s all underground! Sounds safe enough, right? Anyway, Mr. Driller Drill Land was an awesome GameCube title, but it only stayed in Japan. But now you can download it on Nintendo Switch in the US! Finally! Each attraction represents a game mode in this theme park, and I’m going to take you on a tour of all of them! So let’s begin!
Good morning Pixlpeeps! It is Monday and I haven’t been around last week. I was going to write up a Quick Hits but on Friday I had a dentist surprise dentist appointment. I was on a wait list and someone canceled so I got their spot. I have one more appointment like that, and a regular appointment later this week. Hopefully both happen this week. I really like my dentist and his staff but it feels like I’m becoming a regular and that’s a little odd especially there. Anyways more on that later, let’s get started with today’s combo Quick Hits/What I’m Playing blog.
Been awhile since I posted here but I figured I would share this little story from today.
So like last year I decided once again to express my thoughts on E3. Again I'll look at Nintendo because well...it's in my user name (say what!? And here I thought I liked Microsoft!) Anyways I really liked some of the announcements and others...well we'll get into that. But for now here is a list of pros and cons
Today, or rather yesterday now, I got myself a cheese steak and a German beer and pulled out the original Xbox and dug into my Backloggery Fortune Cookie picks of Atari Anthology and Taito Legends.
Having beeen a Nintendo supporter since I was 5 and playing an NES and Gameboy, I've always looked forward to how they would next innovate the video game market. Now fast forward 20 years later and all I want Nintendo to do...is somehow, some way, do something...to get 3rd party support...and I'm not talking lazy ports *Cough* Mass Effect 3 when other systems got the trilogy *cough* or even bad shovelware titles that always seem to plague Nintendo systems.
This has easily been one the most interesting Summers for gaming that I've ever witnessed. The big ones obviously being what happened at, and after E3. But what's surprised me the most is this persistent narrative of "well, if one company is screwing us, then surely the other one is". Leading up to the E3 press conferences, the press seemed hell-bent on pushing Sony into the fire with Microsoft over the DRM and connectivity issues, despite any actual evidence to back this up. The idea seemed to be that there was no way a company so large would make such huge mistakes without being sure that the competition was going in the same direction.

Many Nintendo fans have been anxiously awaiting the latest Super Smash Bros. This E3, we caught a glimpse of both the Wii U and 3DS versions, and thankfully, it seems to continue the tradition of high-energy wackiness.
It looks like the overwhelming internet consensus has won the battle with Microsoft’s controversial policies for its Xbox One. Just a couple of weeks after releasing somewhat vague details about the upcoming console’s used game, game sharing, and connectivity restrictions, Microsoft has essentially negated every last bit of its planned policies. Is this a big win for gamers and their hobby, a speed bump on the road to the inevitable, or a big step backward from a glorious future of digital game sharing?
So Microsoft is now backtracking on some of the Xbox One's "Key Features" by stating that they are no longer going to impose DRM, always online, restrictions on lending/reselling, etc...
I'm glad you asked that question! For me, the new Smash Bros. info from Nintendo was the most exciting part of E3. The new characters have me excited. I have been anticipating it ever since the info came out that it was in development months ago. First though, a history lesson!
