25 Years of Batman: The Animated Series
So I'm at a weird place right now where I want to gush over Arkham Knight, yet respect you all to much to spoil why the story to this game is so incredible and made me ignore all the shortcomings of the PC version. So instead I'm going to rank all the Batmans we've seen hit the silver screen.
This year, I had my Golden Birthday. I turned 23 on March 23, 2013. At first, it seemed like anything but golden, but the pain in the ass that was this year ultimately made me a stronger person. Here are 23 things I will remember about 2013, some more important than others, all tying into a central theme relating to a certain video game I played recently that has inspired me a great deal. Seldom is there a licensed game as good as Batman: Arkham City. It succeeds in all of the areas that Arkham Asylum failed, while also keeping the fantastic ambiance, gameplay, and loyalty to the Batman franchise that we came to expect from the original. Pretty much every time I picked it up I easily ended up dropping at least three hours into the game and had no desire to put it down. I will go as far to say that Batman: Arkham City is not only the best comic based game ever, but a contender for game of the year.
As it turns out, 2009 was a seriously packed year with a large variety of titles being released all year long.
When I first heard about Batman: Arkham Asylum, I thought it was too good to be true. I figured it would end up being nothing more than a typical disappointing licensed game. Then the pieces started coming together: Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill of Batman: The Animated Series fame were set to voice Batman and the Joker respectively, the combat seemed to capture the Dark Knight's signature style, and the story was being penned by prolific comic writer Paul Dini. At the end of it all, Arkham Asylum turned out to be one of the best licensed games I've ever played, and one of the finest games of its kind.
