Mini-consoles have been a thing for well over a decade now, thanks in large part to the Atari Flashback and all those ATGames Genesis consoles. Mini-consoles experienced a huge surge in popularity with the success of the NES Classic and SNES classic in 2016-2017. Suddenly, everybody was putting out mini-consoles - the PlayStation Mini, two interations of mini Genesises (the OG Genesis and the 1994 revision that came with Sega CD games), and even a TurboGrafx-16 Mini.
I finally set up my new OLED Switch. Boy this thing is small. It's even a third of the size of my Xbox Series S, which seemed small to me for an Xbox console. The Switch has such a minimalist design. Those joycons are so small. I couldn't figure out how everything plugged into the holder until I popped the little piece of plastic off the side to expose the jacks for the HDMI and power cord. This is such a Japanese design. There is no waste of space. It all fits together like a work of origami.

Reflecting on what I played this week as I wait to see Hotel Transylvania 3 [posting this later. Already saw the movie. It was good. I love seeing old SNL comics doing the voices like Adam Sandler, Molly Shannon and David Spade]. I hit the retro first with PlayStation games. Later I'll mention catching up in the Banner Saga series and then getting sidetracked by Bomber Crew while waiting for Banner Saga 2 to install.

Only 80s babies will remember these. Anyone heard of them or collect them? I had some when I was a kid and ended up keeping them because they're freakin awesome looking. 2 weeks ago I bought some of the newer ones, which, it seems, are only sold in Japan. They finally arrived today so I threw together an unboxing video full of FACTS!
2017 will probably go down as a very good year in gaming. We got a new 3-D Zelda game, a new 3-D Mario game, 2-D Sonic and Metroid games…heck, we even technically got a new Animal Crossing game! Well, we also got a new Bubsy game, but let’s try to stay positive. It was a way better year in gaming than 2016, anyway. So now it’s time for my Best Games of 2017 Awards Show! Hey folks, sorry that it’s been around two and a half weeks since I posted a blog, but I’m even more sorry that I’ve done two game review list blogs right in a row. I know that these kinds of blogs can be seen as shameless plugs and that might annoy some of you. But I really only do these kinds of blogs to share with you what games I’ve been reviewing lately, and post thoughts and background that you might not find in the actual review. But I also kind of like to alternate so I don’t have too many of these blogs right in a row. I do have a few blogs like this planned, like a review of the Famicom Classic Edition, characters in Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite (just got that game today), and more. But the past two weeks I was just too busy to work on them. I wasn’t really OVERWHELMINGLY busy or anything, but just busy enough that working on those blogs would’ve been more stressful than fun. And since I don’t get paid to do these blogs, I only do them if they’re fun. So hopefully I’ll have some more different stuff up soon. I'm home sick today, not sure if it's round two of the vicious chest cold I had earlier or a brand new nasty virus. Either way, I'm so sick of hacking and sneezing. Anyway, Beau and I spent the morning watching The Dog Whisperer. Beau is so funny when there are dogs on TV - he cocks his head and tilts it from one side to the other, and then he gets up close to the TV screen and whines. I think he wants me to let the other dogs out of the box to play with him.
Good morning Pixlbit Nation! It is a nice Friday morning here in my little section Southern California. Currently I have the WWE Network playing because my Grandfather really loves wrestling and he gets more use out of my subscription than I do. If you ever watch older Pay Per Views its like Bizarro World especially if you watch the current stuff but only started watching again for a year. Currently he’s watching 2013 Backlash and everything is different. I know you folks aren’t here for the wrestling talk (you should be) but anyways let’s get started with this edition of Quick Hits with Chris!
I did a game hunt today. I went to a mall outside my neighborhood to access the other Jay Street Video Games store in my area. This retro store has really grown over the last few years and now it's stocked to the gills with retro goodness. I have a short list of stuff I want to add to the permanent collection.; some I've played, others I haven't but want to. The results are pictured below.
