Capcom has recently announced, Street Fighter X Tekken, a new crossover fighter title developed by Capcom for the PS3 and Xbox 360.
The title will use the engine that was used in Street Fighter 4 and Super Street Fighter 4, and will feature popular characters from both franchises. In addition to having standard modes such as versus and training, the title will also include tag team combat where two characters will be able to perform special combo and assist attacks.
Update: Shortly after the Capcom announcement, Tekken producer, Katsuhiro Harada announced that Namco Bandai is developing a 3D version of the crossover fighter that will be titled Tekken X Street Fighter.
No release date has been announced for Street Fighter X Tekken and Tekken X Street Fighter.
This is surprising news! I really never liked Tekken's engine, it feels very, very slow to me. However, from what I've seen of them, Tekken's characters are very diverse and interesting. I definitely anticipate breading more about this.
It's very interesting that there will be two versions of the title. One that will be in 2D by Capcom and the 3D edition by Namco Bandai.
I definitely don't like Tekken, but I can't complain about a new Capcom crossover fighter. I'll be interested to see how the Namco version turns out, but I'm not getting my hopes up.
Part of me believes that the Capcom version will be a re-skinned SSF4 with a tag mode and the Namco version will be a re-skinned Tekken. If you look at the debut trailer for SF X T its sort of looking that way already. I wonder if there will be a special edition which includes both titles, assuming that the release dates between both titles are not far off.
Are they not concerned about cannibalizing each other's sales?
It seems a bit confusing to have two different games which have a title that's the reverse of the other...
