It's always fun to go down the list of Metacritic's top games for a system or year. Here goes for the GBA, which I'm trying to play alongside my PS2 games. It's all about the early 2000s.

Last year there was a game that came out that I really wanted to review called Arcade Paradise. I requested a review code three different times and was denied each time! I really wanted to review it, too, because it’s a time management sim where you must run a laundromat business, but you are secretly running an arcade in the back with dozens of fictional arcade games you can actually play! I actually had an idea for a business that was half laundromat, half arcade, and I was going to called it Quarters: Good Clean Fun. So this game really resonated with me. If I had gotten a chance to review it last year, it definitely would’ve showed up on my Game of the Year list somewhere. But this year I used some Christmas present PlayStation Store points to buy it, and sure it was only 20 bucks so I was kind of cheap, but this stuff adds up if you’re not careful. Anyway, so now that I’ve played the game, I thought I’d write a blog about the arcade cabinets you can play on it. Oh yeah, and slight spoiler alerts here and there, but I don’t think it matters much.
Hey, guys! 2020 has been a miserable year for the world, so thank God it's over! But it was a really good year for games. This year I was able to beat 25 games, which is almost the most I've ever done in a year. Most of you know that I'm a huge Nintendo fan, so most of these are Nintendo games or games on Nintendo consoles (although I would like to get a PS4, but not sure if that'll happen). As always, I beat some really great retro games this year too. So without further ado, here are the games I beat in 2020.
A few months ago, we got a couple of downloadable only collections of Namco NES and Famicom games. I even wrote about them, which you can read here. But did you know that in Japan, they got a physical copy of the game on the Switch, and that it had different games and a new interface? I actually imported this game because it was only 30 bucks, which isn’t bad for an import title. So let’s take a look at this collection and what makes it different from the ones we got in the US!
Miniature versions of classic game consoles with pre-loaded games has become very popular in the past few years. First we got mini versions of the NES and SNES, and then SEGA came out with one for the Genesis. And now we have the Turbo Grafx-16 Mini! It was supposed to come out last year, but got delayed. Because of the Corona virus, I didn’t think it would ever come out. But a couple of months ago, I got mine in the mail! I just now got a chance to play it, so we’ll take a look at all the games on it. Because there are so many games (almost 60), I’ll have to split this up into several parts over the next few weeks.
I almost bought the Star Ocean game on PS4 after not seeing it in Coming Soon on Switch but I waited and lo and behold it popped up under new releases on Switch yesterday.
I beat the story mode in Super Bomberman R (a Games with Gold freebie) and then got all the Stunt Rings in Crackdown 3 for an achievement. Between the two, I experienced quite a lot of boom.
Good morning Pixlpeeps! It is Monday and I haven’t been around last week. I was going to write up a Quick Hits but on Friday I had a dentist surprise dentist appointment. I was on a wait list and someone canceled so I got their spot. I have one more appointment like that, and a regular appointment later this week. Hopefully both happen this week. I really like my dentist and his staff but it feels like I’m becoming a regular and that’s a little odd especially there. With the SNES Classic out on shelves and 21 fantastic games on the classic system, I figured I'd highlight some classics that didn't quite make the cut. So let's talk some classics.
So with BaD underway, I decided to focus on a few oddities that came with my emulators. Today I proudly present the strangest handheld of all and a very obscure one at that. Today I'm going to blog about the Watara Supervision!
On Friday, February 17th, I had the opportunity to travel to Chicago and check out Nintendo’s upcoming new system—The Switch, as well as fifteen different titles releasing within the Switch’s first year. As a longtime fan of video games, I’d read about events like E3 and press preview events and dream about going to one of these one day. Since I’m not involved in games journalism and live in the Midwest, I never imagined I’d have a chance to attend a preview event. The only time I went to something of this level was Nintendo’s E3 Best Buy event in 2013, where I spent three hours in line so I could play one Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze level. When Nintendo emailed me an invitation to preview the Switch, I immediately snagged two tickets. When I left for the event with my friend Marcus, I expected something similar to that Best Buy preview.
Netflix announced yesterday that an animated Castlevania series will be coming to the streaming service this year. It will apparently be a very violent, adult-aimed series based Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse and written by Warren Ellis. I am certainly intrigued. We haven't had anything Castlevania for several years now. Maybe Konami will leave the doldrums of pachinko behind and come back to making awesome games! But I'd settle for them licensing out their many great properties for other to work on at least. And hey, we're getting a Bomberman game on the Switch. I never thought he'd be getting a new game.
