Last year, Nintendo released the NES Classic Edition, a smaller sized 8-bit NES shaped console with 30 classic games. It’s been notoriously hard to find, and I’ve been a bit bummed that I haven’t been able to get one. But I wasn’t TOO upset because most of the games I played on the NES were from Capcom, not Nintendo (Mega Man and Disney games). But the 16-bit Super Nintendo is my all-time favorite console ever. It was the gaming console that really cemented my preference for console games, and the system just clicked for me for some reason. So when Nintendo released the SNES Classic Edition in the same vein this year, I REALLY wanted to get it. Luckily, my family got it for me for my birthday! Nintendo DID say they were making more of the SNES Classic Edition, and I don’t know if that’s really true or not, or if we were just more prepared this time. But not only was I able to get one, but three of my brothers got one, too! So to celebrate me getting a SNES Classic Edition, here’s a blog about all the games on it!
As already discussed in my last blog, I'll be playing EarthBound and attempting to spearhead a community playthrough of the game. Judging from response, it looks like a few people are on-board here, and I think I can pick up a decent amount from NWR.
The gaming community has frequently rallied around group plays of EarthBound, starting with Starmen.net, which grew into Fangamer. I've seen it done elsewhere. Would PixlBit be up to it? I'd be happy to host a live stream of it all on youtube now that I've got streaming all set up. I'd probably get NintendoWorldReport to join in as well, since I'm in that community here and there as well. Who'd be at least somewhat interested?
Well, I had too much sugar this week and last night was faculty/staff appreciation night at the basketball place on campus, so I used getting in free as an excuse to spend $9 on a couple hot dogs and some bottled water. Then today, feeling like garbage from having stayed up too late and negating all the workouts I did Tuesday through yesterday, I made the executive decision to order and eat an entire ... I'd say medium pizza and have hard root beer before my therapy appointment at 4pm ... which was after teaching 4 classes straight from 9am to 1pm. Needless to say, I had to get some water and was offered and accepted a couple Ibu profein at said appointment. Basically, I had a hangover without ever getting drunk. I still feel like shit.
Hey folks, I’ve got a big announcement to make! This August, I will have been writing video game reviews semi-professionally for 20 years! Yup, it all started back in 1996. I bet most game reviewers don’t even last that long! So in honor of that, I decided to write an article about it, and share with you all how I got started, what I’ve done in the past 20 years, and some of my highlights and favorite memories. Oh, and I’d like to apologize in advance if this article sounds a little too self-absorbed and ‘braggy,’ as it is all about me. I promise I won’t be like this all the time in the future. But I figured that 20 years really IS a reason to celebrate, so I hope you don’t mind this, just this once.
Instead of a wishlist where I list what new games I'm looking forward to, I'm going to list I want to play whether released in 2016 or not. Some will be new to me, some will be replays/continuations, and as part of my year's resolution, I hope to complete most of them.
I tried logging in to the PSN store on the weekend from my PS TV and found out I can no longer do that. It would appear that the last system update pooched that particular feature for quite a few people and I haven't read of a fix yet. Thankfully I can still use my PS3 do download PSP and Vita games then side load them to my PS TV or PSP.
When you play Bloodborne it is important to remember slamming your large cranium into the ground or a blunt object is a good course. The reason being is this game as I have finished it made me think about some aspects of gaming.
Hey folks, here’s another batch of games I’ve been reviewing lately over at GamerDad.com. And just in time for Halloween, most of these are spooky and kooky games! Please click on the links and read as many as you can, and maybe even post a comment or two here or there. I’d really appreciate it. Happy Halloween!
Guys, I'm bummed out that I had to cancel this years horror fest game marathon. I've just been busy with new games which wasn't an issue a year ago. This is also a good thing as it means the game industry is healthy and all good. I'll just give a brief update on things...
Samurai Warriors 4-II (PS4)
I've never played these games. This was the first and I really enjoyed it. There is a lot of game here, and I still have half the game to finish. Probably one of the best if the internet doesn't lie. It was the right series to jump in on, but I've also heard good things about Dragon Quest Heroes, which I also want to play.
Corpse Party Blood Drive (VITA)

Nintendo has reported that president Satoru Iwata passed away yesterday due to complications from a bile duct growth. The young 55 year old president took the helm of Nintendo ahead of the launch of both the Wii and DS, bringing the company great success. Unlike many who held his high ranking corporate position, Iwata's humble beginnings started in game development.
Hello, and welcome to the Aperture Science blog! In case you’re wondering, this is not Cary writing this blog. I’ll let you guess who this is, but I’ll at least give you feeble humans a clue: the cake is real, and is at the end of this blog. I’ve used my highly advanced computer brain to hack into Cary’s blog to let you all know that I’ve captured Cary and taken him to my underground test chambers, where he will be performing tests for the rest of his insignificant life. Don’t try to send someone to rescue him, my turret factory is up and running again, and any attempts to free Cary will end in futility. Although I have to say that my new test subject may end up more annoying that that one moronic core with the British accent. For instance, right now Cary is jumping up and down next to me, telling me that I’m going to be in some kind of new LEGO game. I have a bad feeling about this. Anyway, I am graciously going to let Cary take over this blog for a while, as he has some game reviews he wants to tell you all about. That will give me some time to prepare his first tests. Enjoy!
Well, another E3 has come and gone. Now it’s time for me to complain about not being able to go to E3 AGAIN this year. But the games they showed at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo were pretty neat, and still worth talking about, so here’s a blog all about that. Enjoy!
Every once in awhile, the subject of "which cancelled video game do you wish had been released?" comes up. My answer to this subject is always the same
This month I've been completely absent from blogging. Sorry I couldn't participate in BaD this year. But I just had to share this in case others aren't aware yet. Last night, I was treated to a nice surprise upon booting up my Wii U and visiting the eShop. I saw the following:
