I saw the other day that the well-regarded 3DS game Monster Hunter Stories has been ported to mobile. The visuals have been upgraded to HD (on the 3DS they were 240P), and apparently it's a great port. At $20 it's probably cheaper than the 3DS version nowadays too. If you're not familiar with it, it's a Monster Hunter game, but with cartoon visuals and a turn-based battle system. Apparently it's very good. I'll probably get it - I need a new iPad game to play.

Good morning Pixlpeeps! It is Monday and I haven’t been around last week. I was going to write up a Quick Hits but on Friday I had a dentist surprise dentist appointment. I was on a wait list and someone canceled so I got their spot. I have one more appointment like that, and a regular appointment later this week. Hopefully both happen this week. I really like my dentist and his staff but it feels like I’m becoming a regular and that’s a little odd especially there. Anyways more on that later, let’s get started with today’s combo Quick Hits/What I’m Playing blog.

The Fighters of Dissidia Final Fantasy NT

Dissidia Final Fantasy was one of my favorite games on the PSP.  It was a fighting game featuring characters from the popular RPG series, and there were two of them on Sony’s first handheld.  I always thought it would be neat if there was a version of Dissidia on one of the big consoles, so I was excited when Square-Enix announced Dissidia Final Fantasy NT for the PS4.  I’ve been playing it recently, so here’s a blog about the characters and stages you can find in it, as well as some brief impressions of the game as a whole.

So many crystals, chocobos, and moogles, all in one place!

It’s hard to believe that it’s already been over five years since I helped PixlBit ring in Final Fantasy’s 25th anniversary with an exhaustive retrospective series, but here we are. Even though I missed the actual 30th anniversary of my favorite game franchise, I couldn’t let that milestone pass without doing something to show my love for this epic saga. To that end, I submit to you, our dear readers, my ordered ranking of the fifteen main games in the series. Naturally, this excludes spinoffs like Final Fantasy Tactics and direct sequels like Lightning Returns, and this is very much my list and in no way is PixlBit’s definitive order. But hey, everyone loves a good list, right? Each game features a quick paragraph reprising some of the information from the FF Retrospective, and a more personal take on each entry. I hope you enjoy!

So confirmed in news recently was the announcement by Nintendo that the SNES Classic was coming. After a successful limited run of the NES classic which came packed with 30 games for $60, the SNES classic will come with 21 games and will run for $80. It's set to be released on Sep. 29th, 2017 so prepare to visit Nintendo's website everyday to see when you can pre-order yours because if you know how the NES Classic went down...just take a look at ebay prices...ouch. However, you may probably have an SNES emulator of some kind already on your computer... and well...you probably won't need this anyways.

The Nintendo Switch Chicago Preview Event

Friend of the site, Greg Meyer, had a chance to go hands on with the Switch at one of the exclusive events. In anticipation of tomorrow's release, he's put together a bunch of impressions to get you excited for what's coming next for Nintendo.

On Friday, February 17th, I had the opportunity to travel to Chicago and check out Nintendo’s upcoming new system—The Switch, as well as fifteen different titles releasing within the Switch’s first year. As a longtime fan of video games, I’d read about events like E3 and press preview events and dream about going to one of these one day. Since I’m not involved in games journalism and live in the Midwest, I never imagined I’d have a chance to attend a preview event. The only time I went to something of this level was Nintendo’s E3 Best Buy event in 2013, where I spent three hours in line so I could play one Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze level. When Nintendo emailed me an invitation to preview the Switch, I immediately snagged two tickets. When I left for the event with my friend Marcus, I expected something similar to that Best Buy preview.

Well I promised it, so here it goes... I plan on showing off a lot of games. I figure 12 a day at 28 days would be meeting my threshold, plus my thoughts on the games themselves. I plan on doing a better set up with my camera with other games and experimenting with different ways to take pictures so let me know if 12 is enough or if I should just sprawl my mountain of wii games across my living room!

You know every once and a while the Nintendo Wii would see the re-release or remake of some unexpected PS2 title. I could never explain it it myself. These quickly turned into pun filled purchases. With many critics and gamers alike dubbing them "Wii"makes or "Wii"releases. Today's game is one such oddity and a strategy RPG to boot. Today on Bargain Bin Buys- Phantom Brave: We Meet Again (At least it avoided the dreaded Wii pun) A game I bought for $10.

I tried logging in to the PSN store on the weekend from my PS TV and found out I can no longer do that. It would appear that the last system update pooched that particular feature for quite a few people and I haven't read of a fix yet. Thankfully I can still use my PS3 do download PSP and Vita games then side load them to my PS TV or PSP.

It was a really great year. I was able to beat more games this year than last, which was my goal. I finished a total of 27 games! Most of these were retro games, but some of them were also new ones. All of these games are worth beating, btw. Here they are in the order in which I beat them.

Yikes, 2015 is over already? As they say, time flies when you frantically play games between family, work, and other life obligations! (That is the saying, right?) First up are all the games I beat this year and then how many I bought or somehow acquired (don't worry, I don't list those specifically). Be sure to stick around for the Golden Hippo Awards after that!

We sure do stab and shoot a lot of people in games, don't we?

I was going to rant about how I'm tired of shooting and stabbing people in games, but that's not entirely true.  But still, this narrow spectrum of human interactive possibility seems to dominate mainstream production. Relief is needed. So what I want to do is compile a list of good, recent games, where shooting (guns/bullets) and stabbing are NOT involved or core mechanics, no matter the genre (but racing and sports need not apply).  So far I have
