So another Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3 for short), one of the biggest video game trade shows, has come to a close. And yet again, I didn’t get to go this year. But that won’t stop me from writing about it! So here’s my takeaway points from this year’s E3.
When a brand-new game console comes out, I like to write a blog about the console that came before it, and talk about my favorite games on it. So now that the Nintendo Switch has been released, I’d like to honor the Wii U and go over my favorite games for that system (not in any particular order).
Nintendo released a trailer for their brand new console coming out in March 2017. The Nintendo Switch.
With Street Fighter V's “launch” still freshly in the public eye, its easy to forget that another big fighting game release is coming out next Tuesday, Mortal Kombat XL. The expansion to the very successful Tenth canonical outing of MK looks to be just as big and bloody as ever with some new surprises...provided your playing on the right platforms.
My question today is for the graphics whores inside us, but not for what a lot of people consider "good" graphics. I'm talking about games that are nontraditional, expressionistic, cartoon-like, or otherwise non-realistic in their graphical design.
A good year for games for me, not so much in other areas, but there's a few worth mentioning.

Welcome to a fun-filled episode of Nerds Without Pants! We are joined once again by Friend Of The Show John Gholson to talk all about B movies and B games. What exactly do those entail? I'm glad you asked. Fortunately, we have John's incredible knowledge of film to lead the way. We skip the Consumption Junction portion of the show and instead split it into a section on movies and a section on video games. Enjoy!
I'm actually kind of dry for first impressions. I don't feel like doing one for Devil Survivor Overclocloked, since I had only played it once so far and I have a first impressions outline for two or four I haven't fully developed (and some I may won't....). In that absence, i'm going to instead post short but to the point recommendations for Web Games, otherwise known as Flash Games (even if some of them are not made in Flash). They are pretty much games that you can play instantly on a brower (as long as you have Flash and/or Java installed of course) on websites like Kongregate and Newgrounds, and they are a staple of millenials like me. With that said, let's begin with:
I haven't really been around since this gamergate thing started. I still see it pop up in my twitter feed every once in a while. I don't know anything about it, so that is not why I am here. I just wanted to make a comment on how it might be coincidental that I took a break from most web interaction around the time that it began. That isn't to say that I have taken a break from games. Far from it. In fact, my wife has gotten annoyed more than once because I have been spending a fair amount of time with Destiny. That is why I am here today, I wanted to talk about Destiny.
To make sure that I get across the point that I want to make, I am going to state it early. I suppose like on of those TL;DR disclaimers. I love Destiny, it has been one of the most enjoyable gaming experiences I have had in a long time. The disc has not left my PS4 since it was inserted.
So Blake asked me what my ranking for Mario games would be. And I thought that would be fun to write about them. I'm keeping it to just the platformers because if I ranked all of them that would mean including Kart. And sports. And RPGs. And Party. And Yoshi. And....Wario? And.....
1977 was an important year for me: I was 10 years old, Star Wars was in the theaters that summer, the first Electronics Boutique (which became EB Games and then was merged with Gamestop) opened in my Mall at King of Prussia, PA, and the Atari 2600 was out for Christmas. For me it was ground zero for video gaming and science fiction, two of my favorite subjects.

When you think of side-scrolling platformers, it’s hard not to recall old-school classics like Donkey Kong, Super Mario Brothers, and Mega Man. Shovel Knight, a modern day 8-bit 2D side-scrolling platformer, feels like a blast from the past. After an incredibly successful Kickstarter campaign, Yacht Club Games’ first release is a grand slam.
Well happy Monday to you good people of the land Pixlbit! I’m currently writing this blog on Sunday because I will most likely be sitting in a waiting room, taking advantage of the free Wifi while waiting for an oil change. Sounds fun doesn’t it? The positive it that it will be in good ol’ fashion air conditioning because my section of sunny Southern California will be in the 110s.
I had a wonderful opportunity to put a little bit of time into Rune Factory 4. I am enjoying myself at the moment, but feel as though I am still in the tutorial part of the game. Once I finally get released into the world to do as I please I am sure that it will become a game that is difficult to put down. I will definitely have some more thoughts as I progress further into the game. I will leave this topic with one thought... I am barely two hours into the game and a dragon has hit on my character. I think that means this will be a special experience.
Happy Friday Pixlbits…and you new PS4 owners, Congrats! Oh new console time is always fun, there is going to be a ton of blog posts here about the new consoles, games, and opinions, and I can’t wait to read them…just remember no spoilers for us few who didn’t buy the consoles on launch. Again congrats and around January or February I will be joining your ranks.
Well hello! Long time no blog, Setz, you say. Yes, it's true that I have been lurking more than writing. Plus I still don't have internet at home, so that's a downer, but now that I have settled into my new place and started working again, I'm hoping to be back participating in discussions like misogyny and retro games on a full time basis before the year is out. What I want to share today is what I am looking forward to this holiday season before the year is out. Call it a wish list if you will. Let's start.
I had some thoughts of things to post over the weekend, but I did not. I find myself running away from computers over the weekends and and touch them only if I am dying. So, I have already failed in my challenge to try and post a blog a day in October. I am perfectly fine with this because I am still going strong with my Metroid Fusion challenge, and I will get it to that later on.
I did want to mention Shovel Knight over the weekend. I got a Kickstarter update that had an HD trailer attached to it, and boy does the game look amazing. It is one of my most anticipated games for the rest of the year. I hope that it comes out this year. Anyways, I though that I would insert the trailer for the benefit of those who have not watched the gloriousness of Shovel Knight already.
