It’s the end of the year so you know what that means?  It’s time for my “Best Games of 2022 Awards Show!”  Keep in mind that this is my list only and no other outside opinions contributed.  And if a game isn’t on this list, it either just didn’t appeal to me as much or I haven’t had a chance to play it yet.  Ok with that out of the way, let’s begin!

Way back in 2019 when I went to PAX West in Seattle, I saw a new handheld console called the PlayDate.  It was simple, yellow, and had a black and white screen.  And a crank you turned on the side!  And it was just as charming as heck and I wanted one for some reason!  Well I finally got one, so let’s take a look at it!

Around this time of year, I like to make a list of my best games SO FAR, because usually the AAA titles are released later in the year during the holiday season, and the titles that came out earlier tend to be forgotten.  So here’s when those games get their due.  Keep in mind that this is my list only and no other outside opinions contributed.  And if a game isn’t on this list, it either just didn’t appeal to me as much or I haven’t had a chance to play it yet.  Ok with that out of the way, let’s begin!

At the beginning of every year I like to take a look at the games I’m looking forward to in the coming year and write about them.  So that’s what we’re going to do here.  Keep in mind that this list is by no means comprehensive, though.  There will surely be games announced through the year that I will be interested in.  And some of these games might be delayed, and there will be games I may not know about yet or have forgotten about.  It’s hard to keep up with all the indie games I might want to play, for instance.  But here’s my list anyway.

It was my friend's birthday today and so we hung out and played games. Here's what I played. 

Took some time on Tuesday to deliver a game to my friend and then stayed and played some games. Here's what I did. 

MODOG here, the mind only designed for gaming. Doctor StrangeGamer and I teamed up for another session of digital disaster in an alternate dimension, ie. we played some games on Xboxes. Here’s the log entry for 07-03-2021.

Hey folks, I got some great news!  Best news I’ve had in a while.  MY MOM IS CANCER FREE!!!  She had another surgery to take out some lymph nodes, and they tested them and there is no cancer left.  So she probably won’t have to do radiation or chemo or anything like that.  You can’t imagine how relieved we all are.  So thanks for all your prayers during all this.  But don’t stop praying just yet!  She still has to heal from her surgeries and she’ll need one more reconstruction surgery from her mastectomy.  And we don’t want this or any other cancer to come back!  But we’re still glad she’ll get to start the healing process sooner.  So to celebrate, here are some game reviews I’ve written recently over at GamerDad.com.  Please click on the links and read as many as you can, and maybe even post a ‘like’ or comment or two.  I’d appreciate it.  OK let’s begin!

Games of the Decade: Expansion Pass #15/Blog a Day #16

There will be four comics Wednesdays this month. Sometimes I get something video game related, but even if I don't, comics go in my toy box with games and miniatures; they all seem to go together. So this is what I got today. 

Ten years ago, we were given a gift in the form of Super Meat Boy on Xbox Live Arcade. At the time, we’d never really seen anything like it. Smaller indie downloadable games were really just starting to enter the mainstream consciousness of gaming and Super Meat Boy effectively kicked the door in and made clear that these smaller titles had something special to offer and were here to stay. And since that statement, myriad other developers have taken lessons from Super Meat Boy and its DNA can be seen in so many games that would follow. However, this creates an interesting predicament that Team Meat needed to solve - how do you offer a sequel that manages to bring something new to the table, while still feeling as simple and approachable (and difficult) as the original did?

Now that the PS5 and Xbox Series are out, I figure it's a good time to reflect on my favorite games their predecessors brought during the past 7 years. I figured since these consoles came out in 2013 and I was there for the PS4 day one, I would list the thirteen games that stuck with me most. Some of them I played on PC or Switch, but I'm including them anyways so long as they're offered on either or both of these platforms. I would include Switch and Wii U, but these days Nintendo consoles feel distinct while PS and XB feel like mostly the same console with a handful of exclusives separating them.
