Sega's Little Miracle

Let's take a minute to go back in time to 1986. Nintendo was basking in the success of their NES console with hits like Super Mario Bros., Excitebike, and The Legend of Zelda. Meanwhile, Sega wanted to prove that the Master System was the better entertainment medium of choice. Attempting to go toe to toe with Mario, they created Alex Kidd in Miracle World. For Master System fans, the release of this game was a day to remember. According to them, it was the dawn of a new era. According to some, Mario had met his match, and Nintendo would soon crumble under Sega's mighty fist. But reality had other plans.

The Last of Us 2 vs. Days Gone

I have Days Gone out from GameFly and I am not very far into it at all, but it just isn't grabbing me. I keep being told to play through cause the story gets better but I'm only going to give it so much rope before deciding against it. So far it really does feel similar gameplay and story-wise to The Last of Us Remastered, which was the first game I ever played on my PS4.

Good afternoon Pixlpeeps! I was taking a nice nap with the idiot neighbor down the street decided to constantly rev the engine of his motorcycle but not ride the damn thing. Since I'm up I might as well share that a couple of days ago I had a dream where I went to the mall and bought some CDs. I would have thought I would have had a dream about a cheeseburger but CDs make sense. Anyways here is a series that I really like on YouTube from Amoeba Records where they have musicians go into their store and do a show and tell off what they bought. Sometimes it's interesting and sometimes folks are just weird (in a good way). WASH YOUR HANDS!

The Games of the SEGA Genesis Mini: Part 2

In this second batch of games found in the SEGA Genesis Mini, we’ll look at a variety of first party and third party games.  Some of these have been on previous Genesis collections, but most of these haven’t.  The only other thing most of the games in this section have in common is that most of them didn’t impress me much when playing them now.  But don’t worry, like I said, we’ll get to the good stuff in the next blog, I promise!

Top 5 of 2018 Past and Present

Published on December 28, 2018 5:23 PM - 6 minute read

2018 came and went and to be honest, I just didn't really feel this year. There were some fine games that came out, sure, but as opposed to last year where my top 10 list had left out games I adored, I had a hard time thinking up a top 5 list worthy enough. Granted, if I put in more time into Red Dead Redemption 2, Soul Calibur 6, and a few other games that might change, but I still feel original games were lacking. What wasn't lacking, however, were the games I missed out on before and played for the first time. So I'm gonna tack on a list from other years as well as they represented what I played better than just the new games. And I'll be mixing them with my other games this year as well to give an idea of what I enjoyed more than others.

The... purple... blur?

The genesis of Freedom Planet is quite evident from the moment the game begins. Though you play the part of a purple dragon, it’s clear it could’ve just as easily been a blue hedgehog. However, there are a few changes to the classic Sonic formula that sets Freedom Planet apart as its own unique experience that merely wears its influence on its sleeve. The end result is a well constructed, fast-paced platformer that entertains from beginning to end.

I finished up with Letter Quest, played some Game & Watch games, checked out the new update in Minecraft, tried to complete Dead Rising Case 0, and got deep into Cars 2. I also started the install of Halo Wars Definitive Edition on Game Pass because I might want to play that again. I'm pretty sure it has a whole new set of achievements from the 360 version too.

To celebrate the recent release of Kirby Star Allies for Nintendo Switch, let’s look at another Kirby game that came out earlier this year that I just now got around to playing.  It’s Kirby Battle Royale, a 3DS game featuring four player battle style mini-games with Kirby and his different copy abilities.  There are ten different types of arenas to battle in, and they’re all pretty interesting enough to be deemed ‘blog-worthy’ by me, so let’s take a look at them!  Also be sure to stick around to the end, as I’ve got some news about HAL Laboratory (creators of Kirby), and their first new mobile game!

Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite is a fighting game featuring characters from Marvel comic and Capcom game universes.  Usually when I play a fighting game that has a lot of interesting characters in it, I’ll write a blog about them, so that’s what we’re going to do here.  We’ll start with the Marvel cast.  Keep in mind that I’m not a big comic book fan, so most of my knowledge of Marvel characters comes from the movies, Marvel vs. Capcom games, and the LEGO games.  So when I go over these characters, if you ARE a Marvel fan, please feel free to correct me on anything or provide any information or insight that you might like to share.

Found A Game That I Like, And My Usual

A couple of days ago I picked up some Double A batteries because I wanted to power up the Wii. I haven't started that machine up in a while and when I went to check on the batteries in the WiiMote, they were trashed. I thought it would be fun to have a console weekend and for the most part is was but I had to jump through a couple of hoops. The PS4 when powered up didn't appear on the screen. Since I have an HDMI switcher I thought I had the wrong input, than I went to maybe the cables were unplugged and then finally I just blamed Sony. Eventually I got it to work, which was odd because nothing was unplugged, and the right input was selected so I'm just going to blame Sony. I found the Mission Impossible Level Set I bought a while back and I thought it would be fun to play that. Since I haven't booted up Lego Dimensions in a while I was a little rusty on what to do. Apparently I needed to download the 1.9 GB world for Mission Impossible.

I have just about all I can find on sale out here in the wild for Superchargers stuff now. There's only one figure left and I'd like to pick up a second copy of the game for my friend Mark so we can do the co-op/multiplayer races. I already have extra portals from my other starter packs and the loose game is only $5. So I may make one more run tomorrow. Anyway, here's the last big haul shown below:

I jumped in Mark’s Minecraft survival game on XBO where he had accumulated a lot of resources. I made myself a suit of leather armor and dyed it red. Then I got myself a horse. All I needed was some iron horse armor so I could say I was riding my iron horse (Motorhead song title - I’m kinda of into motorcycles right now). I realized I could repair and enchant leather armor, so I did that. The suit held up pretty well as Mark and I took on the Ender Dragon and killed it. Then we tried to figure out how to respawn the thing. We figured out how to pick up the dragon’s egg but then we couldn’t figure out how to hatch it. Seems the rules for Minecraft XBO Edition are different than the PC version because there are lots of easy ways to do it on PC but not on XBO. Then I lost connection to Mark’s game and couldn’t get back on. I don’t know what was going on but I gave up after several attempts and built my own world instead.

Good morning Pixlpeeps! What the hell why is so hot here in sunny Southern California? Last week it was what 70, breezy with random spots of rain, and now we’re looking at 101 today. One Hundred and One degrees! I really need to get some errands done in the morning because it’s getting warm and I really don’t want to deal with that until June. Blah! Anyways this past week I finally got around to checking out the latest Captain America Civil War flick and before I talk about my thoughts I really should check out Winter Soldier.
