Recently, Netflix launched High Score, a new documentary series on the history of video games. I thought it was entertaining enough that I wanted to discuss and review it here on this blog. So here’s my thoughts on the six episode series!
Sometimes when I make a list of reviews I’ve written lately for these blogs, I notice they have a theme. This time I noticed that nearly all the games I’ve reviewed lately have strong female lead roles. We have Blaze Fielding, Cherry, and Estel Aguirre from Streets of Rage 4, Tifa from the FF7 Remake, Demelza and Nessa from Knights and Bikes, Tanya and Olga from Infinite: Beyond the Mind, and many more! While not quite as popular as they used to be, Loot Boxes are a recent craze as of late. They’re boxes full of themed items that you either order through the mail, or get in a store. Most of the time you don’t know what you’re getting, but sometimes you do. The themes in these boxes range anywhere from video games, movies, or just dog toys and treats. I’ve been tempted to get loot boxes from time to time, but I usually don’t because I like to know what I’m paying for, and many are just too expensive. That loot box at PAX South that had Mega Man on the sides was mighty tempting, but not at 50 bucks! However, there have been a few times in the past year or so where I bought a loot box sold in the games section at Wal-Mart or Target when they were on sale. Why did it take me so long to write about them? Well I thought I’d save them for a rainy day, and now seems about as rainy as ever. Also I have a selection of random games I’ve reviewed at GamerDad.com as well, and just like loot boxes, you never know what you’re going to get until you check them out! I hate to admit it, but I’ve had a hard time dealing with all this Coronavirus stuff. Well, I guess it hasn’t been TOO bad, but bad enough that I’m a bit disappointed with myself for not dealing with it better. But I’m still really scared and anxious about all of it. I have to say that I’m super happy that Animal Crossing: New Horizons came out when it did. Couldn’t have come out at a better time. It gave me a sense of normalcy and saneness during all of this. I’m also glad that I’m still able to review games for that same sense of normalcy. Speaking of which, here are more games I’ve reviewed lately over at GamerDad.com. It’s that time of year again! It’s the Cary’s Best Games of 2019 Awards Show blog! Keep in mind that no outside opinions went into the making of this list. It’s just my own picks. And if a game is missing from my list, it either didn’t appeal to me as much, or I just simply haven’t played it yet. Can’t play all the games out there, you know!
At the beginning of every year I like to write a blog about the games I’m looking forward to in that coming year, so here we are again with games I’m looking forward to in 2020! Now keep in mind that these aren’t ALL the games I’m looking forward to. More will be announced at E3 and such I’m sure as the year goes on. And there are some games that I’m looking forward to that have been announced, but I’m not sure they’ll really come out in 2020, like Breath of the Wild 2 and Metroid Prime 4. But you never know. But here are a list of 2020 games that I’m PRETTY sure are coming this year and I’m looking forward to them.

Lately I’ve been watching a series on Netflix that I’ve really gotten into. It’s The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance. And it’s REALLY GOOD! I’m a big Jim Henson fan and a lot of his works were a huge part of my childhood. TV shows such as Sesame Street, Fraggle Rock, and The Muppet Show, for instance. And movies like the original The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth. Heck, the very first Muppet Movie was the first movie I remember seeing in a theater. The new Dark Crystal series feels like something I would’ve watched as a kid, and I don’t want to make too many assumptions, but I feel like Jim Henson would be happy with it. So I highly recommend you watch it if you have Netflix. It makes me really want to play the upcoming video game that I saw at PAX, even though I don’t like tactics strategy games. Can you guess my favorite character from the new series? I’ve given you a couple of easy clues, so you should be able to figure it out.
At the end of August/beginning of September, I went to PAX West 2019 in Seattle. And I finished my articles last week so here are links to them in this blog. Please read them when you get a chance. So another E3 has come and gone, and it’s another year where I was denied a press pass. Ever since 1996, I was going to E3 pretty regularly, but for some reason a few years ago, they stopped letting me in. And yet somehow I was able to get a press pass last year. But not this time! They may say it’s because the numbers of the site I write for are too low, but I’m beginning to wonder if it’s really because I’m just too weird for E3. And if that statement has you intrigued, then please read on for my unique reactions and commentary on things I read and watched about this year’s show.

I just realized that the voice of Kaos in the Skylanders Academy TV show (and games) and the voice of Orthopox 13, Crypto’s boss, in the Destroy All Humans! series are one and the same, Richard Steven Horvitz.
